Ok, here is the deal. I have a pair of laser assemblies (laser and motors and whatever gears are present, etc). KSS-220a & KSS-162a. These were obtained around mid to late 2008 or so I believe. The KSS-220a is in a Discman I gutted years back after testing to make sure the laser worked. The insides were just dead weight to me and so out they went. I just kept the laser assembly in the Discmans shell still to protect it.

The  KSS-162a is from a Nec CD-Rom drive similar to the Turbo CD one, but it was light grey/white'ish. This is the drive it originates from:

I had 3 or 4 of these drives back in the day, all in great shape, and used one of their parts, the shell mainly, and combined it with the inner parts of the TG-CD discman (black laser assembly, circuit board, buttons) to make a black/white/grey drive to go in a briefcase unit seen here:

Anyway, long story short, drives not used for parts were sold off so others could keep their Turbo/PCE Cd's going, and I sold the briefcase system long ago too. I stored the KSS-162a from the white cd drive inside the black Turbo-cd drives shell so it would not get damaged. The laser worked fine when I tested it prior to this project, I just did not need to use it as the Turbo CD's laser that was used in the project was also in great shape.

Anyway, this KSS-162a I am offering here has all 3 of its gears. The middle gear is removed and wrapped in plastic and taped inside the shell. I forget why I did this, but I think it was to make it easier to re-grease if the time ever came to use the thing to re-assemble a drive for someone.

Since that project was done years back these things have been stored in a box taking up space for  along time. They have been in the same small box for what I think is going on 6 years now, and after two moves and having to reorganize my pc /console parts area I think it's time to finally let these go, as I have zero intention of buying a PCE CD or TG-CD again and honestly I am tired of having to take them every time I move knowing I have no use for them. That and I keep forgetting I have them until I do a parts assessment every year or two.

Now the disclaimer. As stated, these things have been stored carefully in a box (sideways to boot, as it prevents gravity from stressing the laser during storage), and have seen no use since they were tested prior years back. In their current state I have no way to test them at all to make sure they have not suffered during their long storage (both these lasers are over 24 years old now, as the KSS-162a came from a drive manufactured in 89, and the Discman containing the KSS-220a was manufactured in 1990).

Due to that I would prefer that whomever wants to make an offer be aware that while highly unlikely, these may have developed issues I would be unaware of. I don't usually offer up anything I can not test, which is why I did not post these prior, but at this point I'd rather see them off to someone who is willing to take a chance, as opposed to just tucking them away for years more. If nothing else the black TG-CD shell, along with the gears and motors can still be used for a restoration project if the lasers can not. The TG-CD shell is still in fairly good condition, so that would be good for swapping out on one with a lot of scratches and wear.

Pics of the items offered up for trade:

Anyway, so, what am I asking for here? Not much, and please, no cash offers, I don't need money for these.

I would be willing to trade these things for 1-3 Genesis/Sega CD/32X games. Number just depends on games being offered. Can be loose carts with worn labels. Don't care as long as the games work fine. Right now I am looking for Metal Head, Shadow Squadron, Wrestlemainia Arcade Game, Afterburner, NBA Jam TE, and Space Harrier for 32X.

For Genesis & Mega Drive, Shinobi 3, Splatterhouse 2-3, Castlevainia Bloodlines, Air Buster, Hellfire, Phantasy Star 2-4, Exile, Raiden, Valis 1, Lightning Force, Street Fighter 2 Champ Edition, Saturday Night Slam Masters, Castle of Illusion, Ultimate MK3, and some others I cant think of right now off the top of my head. A list of what I already own on Genesis/Mega Drive can be found here:
https://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=16653.msg341895#msg341895

For JP Mega Cd/USA Sega CD, Road Avenger, Earnest Evans, Silpheed, Robo Aleste, Ninja Warriors, Final Fight (JP version, I have the US one) Sonic CD (Mega CD version). Disc can be loose in generic case for all I care, as long as they are not heavily scratched.

If you think you have something I want, but it is not on the list, I am open to offers. If I have never dealt with you prior here though I prefer you have a decent feedback count, have completed a couple deals here at least, come with a recommendation, or ship first (you ship your items at your expense). If I know you and have dealt with you before then all I require is shipping out in same time frame, you cover your ship cost, and I cover mine.

Now, I don't really see anyone needing this stuff, but hey, might as well post just in case.

Hey Prof, if you don't get any bites on the trade avenue, I wouldn't mind working something out for the tg-16 CD shell, and maybe one of the lasers.

Monies wont entice me. I need that sense of adventure and haggling over a trade. If money was the motivator I would just do a rinse and repeat on ebay (sell lasers, buy games, stay bored). Only system I game on right now is Genesis/Sega CD/32X, so thats why I only listed stuff for that format.

Per an offer of nabbing part of the package, everything needs to go in one lot.  The only thing worse then storing two of these for like 6 years is knowing I'd still have to use the same box to store just one of them for another 6 years lol. I'm good if I get no trade offers though. I will just put the box back up for another few years or whatever.

Also, just a general observation, have these lasers basically sold out at most places? I don't see them come up on ebay and not seeing any on google searches anymore for sale. I used to get emails from ebay when new auctions were listed for these lasers. I cant recall the last one I got, but it has seriously been a while.

Not really sure on the lasers being sold out.  I am sure they can still be found though.  It does appear that they aren't popping up as much now that you mention it.  I used to see them all the time in my searches, now not so much.  hmm...

Makes me wonder. I thought generics of these were still being manufactured and sold en masse. I guess maybe demand for them went down a bit or something.

Looks like some nice spare parts.  It's always a good idea to keep spare parts on hand.  Then you can minimize the delay to Obey if something breaks.  :)

In a high tension deal worked out between two world powers, a transaction was brokered, the terms of which will remain secret to all but a select few until my passing in the year 2088, per my will. Consider these laser drive assemblies+shell as property of xelement5x now. Thanks for all who were interested.
