« on: April 24, 2014, 08:01:18 PM »
Is there a good source/online store/etc that sells japanese strategy books for a fair price?
It seems they´re hard to come by here in Europe...

Funny you should ask...
I have a bunch of extras that I was interested in selling, but I haven't seen much interest in them in years.

What is your idea of "a fair price" ?
And are there any books in particular that you're looking for ?

I have spent a considerable amount of time over the years trying to identify and list all of the books that exist (and collect them).  I have extra copies of many, but not all.  The downside is that shipping costs from Canada to Europe is probably higher than you might expect.

Mmh...can you post what books you have and what your intended price is? What I see popping up on Ebay is heavily overpriced (betwee 50 and 150+ $).

Well, here's the difficulty...

Among the guidebooks, I have cataloged (as existing):
- 100 Games have something corresponding to them, plus "miscellaneous" boks which may contain references to the remainder
- 15 "MOOK" books which are laid out in a magazine style, and often come with CD
- 196 magazines inserts (89 of which were for "Miscellaneous" games); most of these were strategy guides, but some of which were glorified sales brochures.
- 6 General-purpose books sold stand-alone
- maybe 60 or so were actual game-specific books sold separately at retail

Looking at my primary "extras" pile, I count about a dozen of these standalone books, and over 50 of the inserts that are easy for me to part with.  But I'm a bit disorganized at the moment, and have some other piles I can search in, if I know what I'm looking for.

So that's why it's not easy for me to just put up a list, and why I asked which game(s) you are most interested in.

Of course I wouldn't be asking for $50 for a book unless it was Linda3 or something hard-to-find like that.  (That one is regularly over $70 inside of Japan).  R-Type and one of the Snatcher books also have wildly variable pricing in Japan between $30 and $120, but most others are pretty stable, and cheaper than that.

For the most part, I'd target the standalone strategy guides at around $10 each, with the inserts cheaper (say, $5 each or cheaper in quantity).. but it depends on which game, whether I have multiple extras, and so on.

The tragedy is shipping, though.  For the cheapest tracked package to say, France for example, 1Kg is over $50; 2kg is over $80, etc.  Unfortunate, but out of my control.

As I mentioned earlier, if you have some games (or even genres - shooting ? RPG ?) in mind, I can reply with what I have for those games.  I can't list everything because I simply have too much.

Perhaps you can list these for us?

That'd be quite the chore.  I'd settle for just the PCE mooks.

Maybe you could just lay them out and show people a picture of them to get an idea?
