what is a fair price for a Turbo Express
« on: May 15, 2006, 05:01:09 AM »
Hi everybody! I've been a regular reader of these forums but now that I have the time to mess around, I'm ready to make the jump into the world of PCE/TG16.

I need some opinions here: What would be a fair price for a Turbo Express (minus AC adaptor, TV tuner)?

Thanks!

Rough estimates here. Actually these prices are reasonable, compared to ebay. Sometimes $200+ for boxed TE in used condition, insane.

Used: $75-90 unboxed (depends on condition)
Mint: $120+ boxed
sealed: $179.99 @TZD.com

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

I'm not sure, BT says he has quite a few. He also sells some with the sound problems for $80 I think.

Dang, I wish knew about his TE stash a long time ago. I would have bought two from him, one sealed and the other used.

Oh shoot, he doesn't seem to have the ones on his store anymore. http://www.mindrec.com/?main=store/index.php

He still sells the bad audio ones for $90 though.

I went through an exhaustive search of all the TEs that I have left in stock, and the only one that had decent audio on it, had a bad screen, so I could not, in good faith, sell any of them as new, unopened and untested anymore.

I suspect that any TE out there labelled as new is going to have the audio problem at this point -- maybe one of these days I will get brave enough to try the capacitor fix myself on one.

Turbo Expresses were never "sealed".  Out of the shipping carton they are unsealed boxes.

bt, you should perform the audio fix.  Works like a charm.  I've been working on solving the video issue too.

I have no doubts that it does work -- my main concerns are: time, and well, honestly, lack of hawk-like eyesight anymore.  Oddly enough, my hands are pretty steady still.  And don't even get me started on my soldering background, which is more geared toward stained glass repair than circuit board repair.  =)

Someday ....

I have a totally MINT boxed TE for $135 shipped.  I used it for 10 minutes total just testing it. Everything is perfect.  It also comes with 4 games:

Splatterhouse
R-Type
Twin Lap
Alien Crush

Oh man, that's an excellent deal. Whoever is interested in getting a TE certainly won't want to pass this up. It looks like it doesn't suffer from any or many bad pixels too.
