So, i decided to build an snes repro for the hell of it. While my soldering skills are decent I decided to go for the easiest route possible.

for the "donor cart" i decided to get this instead:

http://www.infiniteneslives.com/aux5.php

it probably beats building one from scratch and it pretty much seems like an inexpensive 20 dollar snes flash cart (yes by the description you can write to it multiple times if you mess up, so perfect for a beginner).

the flasher for it seems to go for 20 bucks (30 if you get it with all the bells and whistles)

i will update the post when i receive the stuff. all very exciting! I could definitely get pointers from veterans once i have the stuff to try it out!

That stuff looks pretty straightforward, so I'm sure you'll have success.  Good luck in your quest to make non-OBEY.

I need to start getting OBEY again.

for labels im googling around since i am wondering what the best type of materials should be used for them. Artwork, i am going to use those replacement plastic snes game holders so printing an inserst should be easy for it.

I personally have been happy with the following materials: Glossy "label" sheets from OfficeMax/Depot and single sided laminant sheets.

I do all of the artwork editing in Photoshop.  I use a laser printer set to photo paper with highest quality and most DPI available.  I then hand cut them with a razor blade or exact knife.

They come out like this:

It doesn't have to be anything fancy or new.  I use an 11 year old HP Laserjet at home for these.

Hm, nicely done. For me though, the Ys experience luckily began with "Ys Book I & II" when my Turbo Duo arrived. Got the ole TTi clearance deal of $99 with the 5 pack-in games. Anyway, NES was great as a kid, but I've never been able to go back and fully play through much of anything on it. The games just look too primitive to me now (with some exceptions, but yeah, generally), the common spoiling effect of influences by modern systems, etc. Anyway, yeah, nice choice of Ys artwork for this thing!

BTW, is there even an English patch for it ? I guess I didn't even know it was released for Nintendo. I knew about Ys III cause of a patch, but I thought that's all there was for that platform/console.

Yes, Ys 1-3 was released on the Famicom.  There are English patches available for all of them. I am still awaiting my Ys experience on the TGCD (haven't found a decent deal yet).  This actually was pretty good and the music even on the NES is epic.
