Question about TurboDuo lens
« on: May 30, 2006, 08:04:44 AM »
I have been having trouble with my TurboDuo since I got it back from my brother.  I haven't played it in over 2 years.  Since I got it back the sound doesn't work.  I know that this has been covered a billion  times on here.  I also notice that the cd lens seems to be off.  It loads stuff fine, but it seems the lens is all over the place.  I know it can get stuck to the right if it has read errors, but mine is sometimes in the middle or very very far left.  When I play Ys Book I&II it's all the way to the left.  When I play Gates of Thunder it's in the middle.  Does it just depend on where the data is on the disc or do I need to re-calibrate the lens?  Also do people with the cd audio problem still have sound in some parts like the intro to Dungeon Explorer II and one part in the begining of Dragon Slayer?  I guess that audio is on the Data track or something.  Oh well any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Your correct, not all the music is cd audio. At the very least, try to clean the lens carfully with a qtip. Also, take the cover off and regrease the gear (if you feel comfortable opening it). Try that first.

The last time I opened my DuoR, and replaced the Cd lens, I noticed the rails could use more grease. I just don't know what kind.

What kind of grease are you suppose to use? A brand name would be helpful.

Most people just use a standard white lithium grease, but there are more specific ones available. Check out: http://shop.willyselectronics.com/browse.cfm/4,296.htm
