For some reason I hate 99.9% of people that post on Youtube and 99.95% of Youtube game reviewers.

Meh.

Meh.

So do I.

RANT (sorry):

I watch some videos occasionally for entertainment, but I can't stomach too much.

I know this is going to make me sound like a jerk, but I feel that 99% of these folks have extremely limited experience (either with the game itself, or a genre, or the libraries of 8-/16-bit platforms in general) and I simply don't want or need to hear their inane comments and hackneyed observations. I am particularly annoyed when folks regurgitate crap they heard/read from other ill-informed videos/articles.

Everyone wants to pump out videos quickly (fresh f*cking content to maintain subscriber/viewer interest!) and there is very little incentive to take time/energy for quality, in-depth, well-researched (or well-produced) content.

Of course, the same problem exists in  journalism: there is no incentive to create quality, lengthy pieces. The internet has reduced most news to tabloid/NY POST pap.

ONE OF THE ONLY PEIPLE I HAVE RESPECT FOR IS BUCCI: he clearly plays on actual hardware (not just emulation) and he COMPLETES THE FRIGGIN' GAMES prior to releasing his review. It takes time, but this the the only respectable process.

This is entirely understandable.

This particular reviewer went from honestly reviewing games he knew a lot about and had a connection with to adding younger people to play the more current stuff to exactly what you described.

He also expects donations for stuff he reviews and does not return them. He got upset and made a snarky comment about someone who lent him a pc engine to review and wanted it back afterwards.

Kickstarter - separating fools and their money, faster than ever!

The worst are the pick-up videos. They all say one of three things:

1. "I've been looking for it for a long time, and I'm really happy to have it, because I've been wanting it for a really long time, and that makes me happy. So in conclusion, I'm happy I own this game now, because I really really wanted and was searching for it. For a long time."

2. "I don't know much about this game, but it was a good price and looked interesting, so I bought it. It looks cool, but I really know nothing about it. I'm going to sit here, looking confused at it, and telling you absolutely nothing of interest about it, because I have nothing to say. You'll waste 30 seconds of life, listening to me tell you how absolutely little I know about this game."

3. "I already have this, but this little kid who was dying of Super Cancer and trying to raise money for treatment was selling it for $2, and it goes for around $200 online.  I'm going to sell*cough*cough*cough* put it in my trade pile. I never sell anything! resellers are evil! So in short, it was a really good deal that I couldn't pass up, even though I already have it. Have I mentioned that I totally DON'T intend to list it on eBay for $199?"

Regarding that last one - it actually happened in a Game Chaser's video.

http://blip.tv/thegamechasers/billy-s-room-tour-6069598

5:45 - "Lunar 2.... uhm Lunar Lunar 2 Complete In fact I need to se..... Oh crap I need to use this as trade bait."

You can totally hear him about to say "sell."

Hey, you.

The Chrontendo/turbo/etc guy is up there with Bucci.  Other than that, the only gaming channels worth watching (imo) come from the peeps in this forum.

Chronturbo videos are one of the few I'll actually watch, as my views are the same as esteban's, but the Chrontendo guy seems like a PCE-noob who is reading wikis as he goes along, loading up roms in an imperfect emulator.

But it seems that he responded to most of the comments in the Turbo vids and is sticking to Nintendo now to appease the masses.
