In a perfect world I would have started collecting 10-15 years ago and gotten most of these for like ten bucks, but its hard being somewhat new to a more rare and obscure system, especially nowadays with stupid f*cking prices everywhere, it definitely sucks paying more than what feels fair, I honestly don't know where else to go for it though, I'm sure most of you guys judging the shit out of me already accumulated decent collections awhile back so put yourself in the mindset of this day and age and attempting to get into this awesome system, what would you do, pay close to eBay prices every now and then with private sellers, or would you hold off until you find a $40 game you really want until you find it for $20, and end up with a smaller library of games even over a long period if time?

learn some Japanese and save yourself half your income.

Also, I sold off everything I ever had and restarted building my game library in 2009.  $200 for ANY game is crazy talk...

I got the basics of your post.

I had a good collection, at one point, 'til TG -16 tanked, then I got something the N64 guys have. It's OK, Esteban can have my cardboard boxes. as he teaches them to fly.

Get a Flash cart.

and,Turn Japanese!

I'd gladly pay $200 for a Magical Chase, Super Air Zonk, Dynastic Hero, but I get what you mean, so many f*ckers stock up on all this shit to corner the market, Earthbound is a prime example, at least the majority of the NEC games feels like paying $40 or $50 is worth it, beats 99% of the shit coming out nowadays for $60 lol.
I do plan on learning Japanese too, seems like they get the majority of great games that are Japan exclusive.

What I'm saying is you could have gotten a better deal ON eBay! You have to look at completed auctions to gauge the price, not those stupid BINs. Neutopia 2 has been selling between $50-100. Neutopia 1 $40, Devils Crush $40-60, Dragons Curse $40-60.

I think you got taken for a ride!

It's OK, the past is the past (unless there is a way to get a refund for those recent transactions, if possible). We want your future to be better

The most important thing: from this point further, follow toymachine's modus operandi (basic research determines real selling prices, use this info to make offers ):

Well this guy runs his own shop but focuses on Game boy/color/advance, nes, SNES and 64, just the most retarded prices I've ever seen in my life, I'm up to about $500 news and SNES games, so when I first walked in I was in paradise, after seeing the prices I died a little, but asked the dude if he had any TurboGrafx, he said no, two months later he messages me saying he nought some guys collection And is wanting to sell to me, and I'm so desperate for TurboGrafx I gave in, dude was asking $500 for the monster lair, devils crush, Neutopia I and II and dragons curse but I refused and said $400, he looked pissy but complied, didn't realize it was still a rip off though, I was excited lol.

Yeah I know how that can feel....you just don't see TG-16 stuff all that much in the wild and when you do it is hard to keep a poker face....

Luckily the few times I do stumble on it the seller doesn't have a clue what he has.  Oh but wave a NES or SNES game at them and they become experts.

Well yeah, news and SNES are popular enough that resellers and shady f*cks can price them outrageously and they still sell apparently, but when I see actual physical TurboGrafx anything I get stupid happy and want it, but don't want to pay more than eBay, its just seeing the actual stuff in front of you fills me with mental retardation.

Stumbled across this great TG-16 lot on local online classified. Paid $100 CDN, and about $20 in gas to go pick it up.

The box is pretty rough, styrofoam is intact, but no manuals or inserts. Console is clean (has all hookups), turbo tap, extension, turbo booster plus and extra turbo pad.

Pile of (14) games, all CIC. Only Devil's Crush with some minor yellowing on the huCard.

Just wiped it all down, will test everything this evening.

Fills a number of holes in my collection.  Will have a title of two for a future Raffle on this site, and some to bring along to an upcoming Game Swap in hopes to find more Obey.

Not exactly in the wild .. as I don't get up early enough, or have enough energy for Yard/Garage Sales or Flea Markets (as most around here end up being retail shops running a booth on the weekend) .. but faired damn well lately just with online classified.

PMd you a possible local lead for you.    Also keep your eyes out, planning a pre-Christmas Raffle that just might go Splat.

The Flea Markets near me are all retailers. They own retail stores, but put up a booth at Flea Markets on weekends.  So they snap up anything anyone else has that is good.  They charge their full blown retail price (only break paying cash, and saving taxes). So I don't even bother any more.   I think they could be some rare finds at Yard/Garage Sales but you have to get up early on the weekend for that.  My only two days for the family to sleep in. So we don't roll out of bed until 10ish, and the house until 11ish. So by that time would have missed anything good.  But I've hit three major Obey-bundles on a local online classified in the last 6 months.  A SGX / PC GT bundle with game, a Duo-R bundle with games and today this TG-16 bundle with games. Need to slow down as my retro gaming budget is dry now !
