TG-16 game release list by date
« on: June 21, 2014, 04:00:51 AM »
Is there a list of TG-16 games arranged by release date? I can find a wiki page for NES games but nothing like it for TG-16 except for an alphabetical list.

I can see a list like that where the games are listed by year of release. But buy exact date? that would be hard to compile since someone has to totally geek out and do astronomical amounts of research to find all games released by mo/day/yr

I was looking for such a list because I find it interesting to see when games came out in relation to each other, particularly compared to those on other platforms.

I wish I had resources to assist with such a project, but I didn't own or play TG-16 when it was current, all of my knowledge of it came from magazines like EGM and GamePro, and which I sadly threw out many years ago.

There is a thread in the PCE section that has just what you're looking for. The "links" thread. There's a ton of shit and I'm sure you can find something.

As nullity explained, many of us have fantasized about (and attempted to piece together) an accurate MONTHLY schedule, but we struggle even to 100% agree on a YEARLY release timeline.

DragonMasterDan has shared a list that I have embraced myself (I trust DmD, he is methodical and detail-oriented, at least IMHO).

Someone can find the thread (or two, we had one for HuCARDs and another for CD's? Maybe?)

If someone digs up a yearly release date list, even if it isn't 100% accurate, it would be very helpful to post it in this thread!  Please add me to the 'list' of interested parties (terrible pun  :-k, I'll do better).

we won't have exact release dates until someone uncovers NEC/TTI's paperwork archives in an abandoned warehouse.

Hmm yess.

This promotional video gives month/year for some (then) upcoming games

Can anyone corroborate any of the dates?

We have a thread where this video was shared—I typed out all the games and the purported release dates...then we compared it to DragonMasterDan's list.

And then we realized we had no way of verifying anything.

No one involved in retail can verify when games were distributed?

More of this, please? It helps get over knowing how hard it would be to really find the exact release dates for all Turbo games.

The only way I can figure this, is to find out when certain UPC's were issued. There ahs to be some sort of UPC database of that sort out there.

Someone mentioned maybe finding old TTI paperwork in a storage shed somewhere. I doubt that. I recall in the 90s, when they moved to another warehouse. I asked them how it went, blah blah blah, then asked if they still had anymore of the turbo force magazine sitting around, since in my last order they had thrown in a few, and I recall them telling me they had a lot of them left. The guy on the phone told me they threw them out during the move. I was younger, and let out a surprised, "WHAT?!? I would have taken them!". I was then told, if I had let them know, and paid for shipping them, I could have had them, but they weren't going to ship box(es?) of Turbo Force magazine to me for free. I mentioned they could have thrown a free one in each person's order instead of throwing them all out. The person on the phone let me know that's a lot of trouble, to throw them in as a freebie for each order. It was easier to trash them all before the move.

So, lots of stuff was thrown out.
"Damnit, Beavis, put that away. You're not supposed to have your _____ out when you're cooking".

I love your idea about UPC, but, sadly, it is my understanding that NEC would have secured UPC's well in advance of actual release, and even worse, the sequence in which UPC's are issued does not necessarily reflect the chronological order actual products were available for retail sale.

That's not to say we couldn't use UPC registration info—we absolutely could (it would determine "this game could not possibly have been released earlier than __________", for example).

I suggested a ludicrous idea that I still hope could work: if we were to have a central database of retail receipts (granted, 99.99% of these are long gone) we could establish the opposite of the UPC timeline (that is, "this game could not have been released after __________")

I know, I'm insane for thinking we could pool together all those receipts (if they even exist!), because this plan really only works if folks share receipts that get earlier and earlier (closer and closer) to the actual release date). After 25 years, I doubt we have enough artifacts to establish anything useful for the entire NA  catalog.

Copied, pasted, and saved.  Thanks for the great searches esteban!  This really helps me realize why some of the titles I have been wanting have been so hard to find; these lists are a great resource.
