In an unrelated post, I mentioned needing a replacement Tailspin HuCard due to a corrupted text intro.  Here is a good picture:

The card does not look physically damaged; I doubt it was used to prop up a chair or anything like that.  I tried this in two of my systems to rule out a worn out connector, and I cleaned the card pins carefully.

Other members quickly chimed in saying they had noticed defects with their games too, one bordering on being unplayable.  I am unaware of any threads covering this before and there was nothing on Google (forgive my bad search-fu if I am incorrect).

Have a bad card?  Post a pic, write a story!  This could be a neat to see....I thought it was just my bad luck!

That is better than someone telling me this has been covered in a thread from 5 years ago  #-o
I would not mind a pic of that, sounds like it would be good for a laugh.  Alternate costume, the Warrior Tutu!

The idea of any games doing anything other than acting cute scares me. Still get "PTSD" from when I bought Bonk 3 Hucard and it almost, but didn't effing work. :(

If you have cleaned it properly and tested it on multiple systems, then it's just a bad card. At least it isn't a particularly hard to find or cherished game.

Did you clean it using something like isopropyl or a rubber eraser?

PC Genjin 2 seems to be the most commonly defective HuCard, but jelloslug also had a bad copy of Tailspin:

Yep, art-type eraser, alcohol for the residue, and after it still happened...an eraser meant to remove pen (a lot harder on the contacts).  I could eat off of these pins now...or use the card to spread cream cheese on a bagel.  Like everyone said, at least it was cheap, and the seller and I worked things out right after I discovered the issue.  Well, a loose replacement card won't be too expensive.

No pictures of other glitched out games to share????

I'm no tech expert, but grinding the contacts with an ink eraser might have done more harm than good.

You'll probably have to put in the effort searching for similar threads if you'd like to see screenshots. I didn't keep my defective card, although I was kind enough to make note of the rarity of the variant when I included the still playable game with a console I sold.

I was pretty careful, but yes, it is a lot more abrasive than normal.  I had already worked everything out with the seller, so last ditch effort on my part.  It is not like I wore off the coating on the pins down to the copper or anything like that.  Maybe I should find a table leg that needs some stability with it.

Ah, wow, that's great!  My favorite is the Space Harrier glitch; it reminds me of repairing arcade boards, they do roughly the same thing at times.  Consider my appetite for glitches fulfilled.

I'l like to recommend this website's technique for cleaning contacts.

http://retrorgb.com/cleangames.html

I did this on a few Hu Cards that were giving me problems and they all work perfectly now. Again I've used the method personally and it worked very well. Most dramatic case was for SFII, game would not load at all, after cleaning it, it works perfectly. Good stuff.

I will never, ever use Brasso on any of my games.  An art-type pink eraser is as far as I will usually go, and it works great.  The ink-pen type, I only reserve for corrosion or worst case like the Tailspin.  I also will not use Windex, which seems to be the new favorite.

Fair enough, to each his own. I probably would not have done it either. but going from a non working card to a working card made me a believer.

I've never used the stuff, but I  heard they changed the formula for brasso in recent years compared to what it was traditionally.  I do have a Wonder Momo that won't work, thankfully it's chip only so I can just stare lustfully at that high kick.

Hehe, you could always try hitting it with a hair dryer :D

Wow, that's really messed up! Are there any signs of damage to the card at all?  Mine looks well kept, no worse than most of the other cards I own.

Heck, my copy of Parasol Stars was chewed by a dog at both ends and it still plays perfectly.  Honestly, I need to replace that and raffle it off to folks...hey, it works!  If only a replacement card would not run an arm and a leg at auction.  Hopefully TailSpin will be a lot less expensive.

Are you going to raffle your copy of Tailspin off?  I noticed you tried to make it a 2nd place prize, but it was refused
