Choices choices
« on: July 01, 2014, 06:04:55 PM »
so, with prices being sky high, I wonder which would be the best to get
1. Turbo CD
2. US TurboDuo
3.  JP TurboDuo
4.  Duo-R

All are expensive on ebay anyway, even the broken ones.  Any advice greatly appreciated since I'm new to TG16 collecting.  I have a TG16, just no games and no CD.

Oops!  Edited to avoid offense!

Welcome to the forums. Buy some Turbochips first. Take your time. Then either a PC Engine Duo or Duo-R.

Welcome, comrade

Most folks will steer you in the right direction: Japanese DUO-R

wait... you already have a TG16 but no games? Get some games and play them. (or at least a flash cart)

for CD stuff, there's no reason to get a US setup since the discs are region-free. Grab a JP Duo/R/RX. Since you've already got a TG, wait around for a good deal, whether it's beat to hell, broken, or minty fresh... there's no need to rush out and buy-it-now from some price gouger.

Welcome! And thanks for the nice intro!

I would advise getting a JP Duo (jap is not the way to abbreviate it unless your aim is to offend) with a Turbo Everdrive as well as a CD burner.

also, hi! Welcome to the forums.

Why is the term "jap" offending? I was pointed out to that a few months ago, but since I am not a native english speaker I´d like to know what the reason is behind that term.

When they were trying to take over the world back in the WWII era, "dirty jap" was acceptable since they were the villains. Now it can be deemed offensive by itself. It's just shorthand to me and still used like the former dejap.com. If the intent is to insult, the context will be clear that you're doing so. I don't think it's offensive by default, but that would be relative of course, some people would take it that way.

Welcome to the forums! As many said, get a Pc engine duo+ everdrive. Let me know if you need advice, i can check online in Japanese auctions sites for you. they usually go for like 120$ with the full setup.

An easier version is getting one without the controller and cables from super potato in tokyo. they sell it for 120$, and you are sure it will work and in ok shape.

Ebay is definatly not the place to shop for pc engine stuff.

PM me if you have questions. I was able to hook up 2 members with a pc engine combo (super cd/core grafx) for about 90$, just need to pay attention to those sweet auctions on yahoo auctions japan.

Doesn't shipping cost an arm and a leg?

As recommended in three or four hundred other "what console should I get" thread, get a Duo/R/RX.

Regular duo has a headphone jack, and also IMO just looks way cooler.  I mainly play US Hus and I have a diving board converter so US Duo for me all the way.  If you get a PCE duo you have to get it modded, no converter can disable the region protection.

Also, this thread could have been avoided by searching the forum, pretty sure this has all been discussed to death.
I'm not sorry about this, as I'm not sorry about ANY attack by the goverrats.

Also, if you want to play certain Hentai PCE titles you need a Duo or a SCD.  A minor point.

I may take you up on your offer of help in the future to obtain a Duo R.

Nope, i did plenty of exporting in the last 2 years from Japan to Usa/canada and it was fair. A pc engine, isnt that heavy, and if you dont buy it with the cords, then its even lighter. if u want it shipped in 3 days, the price would be around 40$, but if u have patience, its about 25-30$. If you are doing business with companies in japan to imports ur goods for you, you will pay a lot more, but its definatly not to cover shiping costs, you are paying them a lot.

I sold for about 10 000$ items to help the racket boy community, the highest the shipping cost a member was 200$ for 20+kilos of games shipped express. that guy paid me to go all around Tokyo to find the cheapest games on his list. well worth it for him. took me 3 days, a real treasure hunt.

anyway, point is, shipping isnt as scary as people might believe/
