First new TG-16 game in 20 years sells out in one day...
« on: July 28, 2014, 10:35:29 AM »
All six copies!

Attendees of the Classic Console and Arcade Gaming Show in Cleveland Ohio this weekend were lucky enough to be attending a landmark event. This is the first time in over 20 years that a Turbo Grafx-16 Hu-Card was made available- Atlantean by Aetherbyte Studios. Atlantean is a side scrolling shooter that features rarities on the Turbo Grafx-16 such as parallax scrolling.  Atlantean sold out almost immediately. The cases are created using a 3D printer and it is all assembled by hand. This is the first Hu-Card title released on the NEC console in over 20 years in the United States. The available stock of six Hu-Cards sold out extremely fast, less than a day but an exact time is hard to pinpoint.

I can tell you it was around 3 p.m.  I know this because I grabbed the last copy right before I left.  For one, I had no idea Aetherbyte was in Ohio which makes me proud and for two, I had no idea they would have a booth there, let alone be selling the first few Atlantean cards.  How could I say no to being one of the first to own a piece of history?

P.S. Arkhan... one of my buddies says you were sporting a Green Bay helmet at last year's CCAG.  If this is true I love you so much more.

Whats with only putting out 6 copies? Why not 60? Or 100?

I recall Ark gauging the demand and that's what he put it around, that and/or the technical difficulties in producing them.

It was the latter: lots of time required to assemble and 3-D print the Hucards and cases + limited capital = small first printing. He wanted to have some for the show, but most of this batch are being saved for Protocard supporters and forum members.

Yes. And Arkhans girlfriend in front left, my wife between the heads.

He was pretending to be Commander Keen. Check the pix of last years show (google "ccag cleveland").
So what did you think of the game?

That's what we had ready after the retrocade people were taken care of.

Yes. As soon as I get them put together, labeled, programmed, etc.
They are coming, really.

Why was there a loosey of Keith Courage on the table?
I'm busy playing pinball, but I still drop by to visit.

I really like it.  It is really kicking my butt.  I am admittedly not great at shooters and I've only managed to get passed the second "boss" on all of the standard settings.  I think you guys did an awesome job with the music and sound effects.  I only got some minor slow down when there are a ton of enemies on screen at once.  The controls are really good as well.  The background art and parallax is AMAZING!

I still haven't figured out the best strategy yet on whether I just blast everything on screen or concentrate on the enemies that steal the people.

It is awesome that you guys are already getting a bit of publicity.  I plan to order Pyramid Plunder and Insanity soon (I was hoping to win that 4 o' clock raffle).
