(7/31/2014 - 8/6/2014) Game of the Week: Blazing Lazers
« on: July 31, 2014, 04:08:00 PM »
---------------------------------------------------
July 31 - August 6: Blazing Lazers

(Chosen by tpivette)

One of the best shooters on the system with the best shooters. If you read these blurbs, you know I can't get enough of the shooters.

Here's a nice little French documentary about the history of shooters (don't worry, they interview primarily Japanese developers) in which this very game is mentioned.

This is the game that sold me on the platform.  Years ago I lent my copy to somebody who was just getting into Turbo Grafx and since lost touch; I never got it back.  I think on Saturday I'm going to hit up local used game stores and see if I can scrounge up a copy to join in the fun this week.
Current want list:  Bomberman 93

To hell with that! I can barely squeak by on Hard Human!

Christmas of '89 I received a Turbo Grafx 16 (with Keith Courage of course), and Blazing Lazers. After playing this once, I was hooked and became a Turbo-nut for life. This game has so much awesomeness it's unmeasurable.

This is tied with GoT as my favorite PCE shooter. Love the sound effects especially. They have a nice ring to them.

Yes,the SFX are quite nice. I absolutely love the BASS (when you have TG-16 connected to subwoofer+speakers) for the flying brains in stage 4(?). They explode nicely, too. But my favorite sound is the "bluuhhhbluhhhhbluhhhh" SFX when shooting them.

I hear very good things about this game. Not really one negative come to think of it.  I will most definitely have to try it sometime.

BL is one of my favorite SHMUP of all time, its one of the reason I bought the TG-16 system. Man I gotta
play me so Blazing Lazers.
Looking for TG16 games I don't have already.

Will give this a go soon... I've played it endless times, only beaten it a handful of those. Once the flying brains start, that's the start of my demise.

Edit: great run for not playing in quite a while...

Made it to Stage 9 just after return of the tank boss, and got my ass handed to me.

I've never made past there.

yeah I think that may be the hardest wave of enemies in the game, I like to have Homing Missiles as a secondary weapon there, then either have 1 or 2 as my first weapon maxed out since they spread to the upper corners.

Might give this one a shot. Have played it a handful of times but think I've only made it to the second level. Normally decent at shooters. Haven't given this one enough time.

This one is a game I really want to love, but I don't. Nothing wrong with the game though. . Its got good music and amazing g graphics for its time. The power up system is flexible if a bit confusing at times, and there's hidden difficulty modes for added challenge. But I find the stages a bit too long for my tastes and lose interest long before the end. Even if its not my cup of tea, its one of the essential Tg shooter.

I've owned this one since my original TG-16, and I definitely beat it back then with a fully powered homing laser or whatever it's called ("III" I think).  Recently, I was showing a friend some TG-16 games and it was hard as hell!  I know if I sat down with it longer I could beat it again, but I was getting blown out of the sky repeatedly.  Great music and graphics though, one of the very best Hu-cards/Turbochips.

Wanna do Bonk's Revenge as GOTW coming up?   I was trying to convince my same buddy that it was one of the very best games on the system.
