Power Golf 2 question
« on: October 07, 2014, 04:48:41 PM »
i know this is a long shot, but:

A. Has anyone actually played this game for more than 5 minutes?

B. I am a couple hours in, doing odd jobs, buying clubs and practicing. I started my first tournament and am curious if anyone knows how to save mid-tournament? It seems you can only give up or hole out.

Playing 18 holes without stopping seems completely unrealistic. There HAS to be away to save mid-tournament. This game is great once you really dig into it.

I don't think anyone except maybe majors has played for more than a few minutes.

I actually would love to hear about the game.

I'm assuming someone will chime in and solve answer your question.

Yeah, I cannot recall a save function. For me 18 holes is no issue but I never play tournament. Back in the 90's ppl had more time to relax and play for hours...nowadays it's all rush rush, tap tap...you no longer can stop and smell the flowers on the golf course.

I agree, it is a fun golf game...adds a lot to the original. I love the real world recorded sounds like the airplane flying over head on one of the tracks.

Yeah, you may be right. The game itself moves at a pretty slow pace, but not bad at all for golf. The environmental soundtrack is rad. I love all the life sim stuff and its super english friendly. I guess I just have to carefully pick the day I try to actually play a tournament. Argh.

If anyone else has any tips or knows how to save mid-tournament, please chime in.

majors brings up a good point.
Many of the 80's and 90's games lacked save features in general and required the gamer to carve out sufficient time to complete.

Many of the sports games of the era (ie: baseball games, etc) lacked in-game saves and basically forced you to take the time to complete each season or pennant race one game at a time.

i completed a tournament last night in about an hour. Not too bad. But at my age, its tough to carve an hour at one time out for games. The way the rest of the game goes, it lets you save whenever...so I was half expecting a save feature after 9 holes. But nope.

Its definitely a golf SIM. I am sucking so bad.

Please share all your thoughts in this thread...I only played the game a few hours years ago. I don't have a PCE mouse, but recently I was curious about how the game played with a mouse.

YES, POST VIDEOS PLEASE.

TRIVIA: Both Japanese and North American magazines stated the Power Golf 2 might actually be localized for L'americas.

So far the holes seem to be a little on the repetitive side. I'll play a few holes then the next hole will look identical to one 4 before it.

It is not worth getting a mouse for it though. It's almost less awkward with a pad. It comes in handy on the menus, but not a big deal to me. The only thing I do like about using the mouse for it is I can hold a beer without having to set it down. :)

I plan on doing some grinding on it tonight. I need to practice driving/putting BIG TIME. Especially before i even try to enter another tournament. I came in dead last on my first tournament and they show a very shameful screen, shaming you for being so terrible. I was ashamed.

I'm sure it will happen again and I will snap a pic. It shows your character with his back to the window in a dark room with his head hung low. You could swap the text to say "your loved one is dead" and you could use the same screen. hahah

I want to see a pic, too.

pixeljunkie, can you replay "videos" of a shot to help figure out where you went wrong and strategize on how to improve your game?

I don't remember ever doing this when I played it years ago, but the advertisement/screenshots suggest you can do this. Or something else entirely.

it gives you an option for "replay" after every shot. Seems gratuitous, as it just goes through the animation of you swinging and shows where the ball ends up. Same camera angle as the original shot, etc. Might be helpful for putting more than anything.
