Benefits? No lockout chip, No ZIF cartridge slot. So it's a little more reliable with game loading than a front loader. Yeah it only outputs RF but is easily modded for Composite. I still prefer the frontloader personally. $90 shipped for a toploader with a dogbone is a very fair price though.
These seem to be going for a bit more than they used to. With that said, a system, dogbone, AC adapter and RF switch (assuming all of these things are included) is well worth the money.
But yeah, even with a fully repaired or replaced 72-pin connector the reliability of these units at playing cartridges is light years ahead of the toaster model.
One other note, there DOES exist versions of the top loader that use the multi-out found on SNES,N64 and GC but they're extremely uncommon.
