Resource for translated PCE manuals?
« on: January 16, 2015, 01:36:00 PM »
I just received a couple PCE games from the BlueBMW bonanza. They are both shooters and fairly easy to figure out without reading Japanese, but it makes me wonder if there is a resource out there with translated PC Engine manuals.

Does anything like that exist?

I will be happy to make a home for all the translated manuals (not many exist) that we can find/create.

I know I include two translated manuals (Ys IV and Crest of Gaia)  in the following list:

I can easily tag the manuals so that you could sort/filter the table by "English translation available"

That's awesome, esteban!

And I was thinking it doesn't need to be literally translated pdfs, it could be a nice html pages for each game using the illustrations from the manual with translated text.

I see...that is very doable. We wouldn't have to translate entire manuals, but rather the "vital pages" of each manual...

That's a very good idea.

It would also be great if it were formatted to be tablet/phone friendly, for easy reference while playing.

Heck, that would be good to have for every game.

Yeah I've run into an issue with translations. I wanted to have been done with a manual, tray, and CD by now... but no luck. Those translating apps for images don't work the best on paragraphs, but on single words or phrases it does just fine.

Been tried in the past. Almost impossible to find anyone who can/will take the time to actually do the translating.

I still need a translated manual for Dragon Half. I could provide scans of the original manual if needed. But seriously, even a crude guide for how to beat the game would win my day.

They tried to make me do a recap
I said no, no, no

The problem has always been finding folks willing to translate materials.

Good luck finding someone :)
