Help me make a decision, please.

I am planning on getting a new Turbo Express this summer.  but then on ebay appeared a boxed Turbo Duo with avenue 6 controller( appears that there is no original duo controller with it), a/v and ac wires, original magazines, and bonus games.  It appears that there is no instructions manual, I asked him the question and awaiting a response.  He said that the A/v was fixed by a certified technician because of something with the wire and not the a/v adapter.  Should I get that instead of a Turbo Express?  It's just that I want one with the instructions manual as well as boxed.

I'd recommend the Duo over the Express.  The Express doesn't have the same shelf life and may not last you as long (if you want to actually use it and not leave it on a shelf, that is).  However there is the small matter of the repair he had done to this particular unit.  Could be dicey, then again could be perfectly fine.  The Duo is more "usable" as well, since it has backup memory and plays CD games, plus you get the 6 button controller.

Ultimately it's up to you, just my two cents :)

What's are the games and the price- Depending on what it is I would ge a Duo-R or RX.  A Express is cool, but unless you travel a lot will you really get the bang for your buck?

the bids have risen to $102.50 plus $22.99 shipping fee.  The price will rise.  I should limit it to $300-400.  Depends on how much I'll get for my birthday.  Should I wait till there is one with a box and instructions?  About the sound capacitor being replaced in the Turbo Express, it was repaired by a third party company, but is sanctioned by Turbo Zone Direct.  So I assume it will be quality work.  Other than that it comes as new with box, instructions and strap for $179.99 plus $19.99 for the NEC TE ac adapter.

Here is what is offered together on Ebay:
This Auction Includes
- TurboDuo System
- AC Adaptor and video hookups
- NEC Avenue 6 Pad
- Original Box ect..
- Valis II
- Valis III
- Ys Book I & II
- Cosmic Fantasy II
- It Came From The Desert
- Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective
- 4 in 1 disk
    * Gates of Thunder
    * Bonks Adventure
    * Bonks Revenge
    * BomberMan

This system is in Immaculate Condition, I am the Original Owner, and have the Original Box for the system and All the games, Even the Original Magazines that came in the box! Plays HU-cards, Turbo CD's, Super CD's and Audio CD's Flawlessly. The games show some wear but play fine. with the exception of Sherlocks Holmes which is scratched up, this game loads but DEFINATLY has problems. I was not going to include it.. but why should I keep it when somone else can have it.. I still Even have the Original "paper copy" of the Newspapers that came with the game!

Also Included is the Avenue 6 Pad, This is a Import Controller From Japan, and Features 6 buttons/Slow Mo..ect

This is system is getting very rare now a days, but I would like somone else to enjoy the system, so I am starting the bidding Low. On a side note, These 10 Games are some of the BEST games you will EVER play for the system. Happy Bidding!

I'm a TurboExpress fanboy, but you should go for a DUO, especially if you don't have a CD system already.

You can always buy a TurboExpress / GT in the future.  If you don't have reliable access to a monitor / television, then maybe TE / GT is the way to go. Or, obviously, if you spend a lot of time playing at other venues (i.e. at your job, at school, etc.).

A Duo is more practical, in most cases (as folks have pointed out).

If I have enough money, I'll get the Turbo Duo.  The system is in excellent condition.  There is this wan that is $299.99, but without anything, except hook ups and controller.

I guess I could find a turbo Duo and turbo duo controller elsewhere, other than that the package comes complete with games.  Though some are scratched.  I might get sealed ones of the other games and keep them sealed.  I have a T.V. in my room.

I have both a Duo and an Express, and to be honest I play my Express more since it is portable, but if I had to choose one or the other I would pick the Duo any day.   Hucard games are fun, but the Duo CD has some of the finest games ever made.

One thing to keep in mind though, if you want to get the duo now and pick up an Express down the road, it may be advisable to keep it the same region.  Like, if you got the Japanese Duo and pick up some Japanese hucards, you can't get an american TE and play them without the expensive Kisado converter.  You can get the PC Engine GT's on ebay easily enough, but I don't know of any source that has them new.

i want to get both of them in the American region and just get a converter, which are expensive, but I would need it because most of the games are in Japan.

I think I'll get the Turbo Duo.  It looks in good shape.  The only thing that is missing is the instruction manual.  Can you give me tips on ebay bidding.  I never really bidded on thing more than $100.  So, if they ask me to bid and I give them a high number is that the new bid or is that just the maximum bid that ebay will bid on my behalf.  Help me guys.  Thanks.

I asked the guy and he said that it comes with the box, but without any styrofoam.  It only has a card case for the system.  This is what he had to say:

"The box is worn some, it has some tears on it. on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it a 6. no styrofoam, just one cardboard insert is left. I can't remember what it had originaly.

No scratches on the base system, the only wear it shows is the Rear foot pads comming off a little. no I do not have the original controller, just the avenue pad. I let the original go with my Old Turbo cd."

Thank you for your opinions.

As far as what system to get I think your making a fair choice the Duo will probably provide more enjoyment than an Express.

On the subject of ebay when you place a bid that is the highest amount ebay will place on your behalf. So if someone has a bid of lets say 20 dollars and you input 30 ebay will only bid up to the amount that you clear the old bet. It will however continue to bet for you until someone clears your previous max. I know some people may not agree with this but I found the best way to win an auction, as long as you have a higher speed connection (DSL or fast cable), is to wait till like the last 30 seconds or so and place your max bid; the highest your willing to pay for it. Hopefully it clears the other person's max bid and it should leave them little time to counter bid. If you don't exceed it or you lose its no biggie since the system was getting out of your price range anyway. It really is kinda sleazy but sometimes you just have to resort to it when you really want something.

I e-mailed this guy who will be selling a Turbo Duo at a reasonable price.  $300.  I hope it is buy it now.  Anyway it should comes with the box, manual system, AND styrofoam.  I don't really care about extra games becuase I like to be in control of the condition of my collection.  He says it is in "mint" condition.  I guess it will be in excellent condition.  Plus shipping.  I hope I'll get it.  Please don't take it away from me.  I'll give you a link if it's not what I'm looking for.  I hope I didn't sound rude.

I had no idea 300$ was reasonable. Do Turbo DUOs go for more an PCE DUOs? Mine was only 100$ plus shipping, and that came in the original box. Only thing missing was the manual. But hey, if you got the money and really want it, you'll enjoy it. I was just playing Lords of Thunder a couple hours ago. ;)

I guess Turbo Duos are more money than PC-Engine Duos because the TurboGrafx wasn't as popular as the PC-Engine.

Just a suggestion-  If you want to play US and JP games get both a TG16 and a Duo R or RX.  You can get a US TG16 for less than the price of a converter, and if you shop around you can get a complete Duo R or RX for $200-$300 shipped(less than that if you find a US seller and aren't concerned about the box).
