Stay far away from the u.s version since it cost a fortune now.If you can find a pal or jp version of little samson, then that's the way to go.

It looks like the JP cart is still like around $100 loose, that's nuts to me.  I'd just buy a flashcart mate.

I'm hoping this cart craze will simply collapse in the coming years.  With so many online and emulation options I don't see how these crazy prices can withstand it.

Tell me about it. I get the US cart price jumps. It was not really a hit when released. At the tail end of the systems life.

But the JP release is not rare.  It is just the alt option for most players so you would think it would retain its previous $54 complete status but nope. Gotta gouge the USA market.

Emulation has been around for far longer than the collector craze. Flashcarts are a few years old now, and have done absolutely nothing to the growing prices.

Crashes in the past have generally required some "catalyst." In other words, Marvel going bankrupt due to over printing, Baseball cards crashed as a result of the 1994 players strike... Something would need to "happen" to spoil the collectors market.

That said, a lot of the crash revolved around the "insta-collectors item" market. A parallel with video games today is Amiibos or the glut of Limited editions. People are buying up these items with the hopes that these items will reach Little Samson levels of value. These are the items most affected by a crash. People hoping that Little Samson will go for $10 post crash are delusional. It may not be worth $700, but it certainly won't be available for sub $100. That said, people buying the Villager Amiibo for $50 to $60 are even more delusional. That plastic garbage won't be worth $10 once the next gen rolls around.
Hey, you.

Crashes don't need a token catalyst. The purpose of the catalyst is to give news reporters and small minded types something to fixate on/blame. Blaming WWI on the assassination of an archduke, for example. It's bullshit.

The game collector boom will die just as the SUV boom of the 90s/00s died. It will just eventually become completely unsustainable. With a middle class that's been shrinking for 50 years, personal debt constantly growing, *and* the introduction of quality flash carts, it can't go on forever. The Man will want his lot fees and Walmart ain't giving out any raises. "90s kids", oh how they vex me, will eventually go completely broke, even the ones in Europe, and today's 20 year olds will not move to take their place. They have, by and large, no respect for physical copies or packaging. When this f*cked up market does die, people will blame the flash carts, but as you said, the flash carts alone can't do it.

I will say though that I've known more than one power collector that ended up ditching most of their shit, one system at a time, as the good flash carts become available. In 5 years all our PCEs will have internal drives, internally powered, WIFi connectivity, the ability to play and store every single PCE HuCARD and CDROM2 with the push of a button and no visible external modifications. Once more, it will be easy to use and %99 reliable. In that imminent reality, how many people are going to actually collect cardboard and plastic?

I will, of course, many here will, but we aren't the ones making deals like these:

Dunno about that being accurate. Alot of the reason people collect anything is they enjoy it. They enjoy playing it, staring at it on a shelf, talking about it etc. There is something nostalgic about holding an old game and connecting with how you used to play it or had it when you were a kid. Granted newer generations to come will have no attachment to cart based games but as we stand now there is still many who are and until they get old as shit and pass on there will be a want to collect such things.

The number of Euros camped out here selling stuff on E-Bay is insane. More seem to be popping up all the time. By "here" I mean here in Japan, not the forums.

I have the famicom version and it cost me way less. Also you're correct, the only text the game has is the title screen and password. The game opening is the same to going from nes to famicom.
