Finally getting a Duo!
« on: February 07, 2015, 05:06:22 AM »
Thanks to our very own Keith Courage, I'm finally going to be obeying the way obey was meant to be obeyed - with a Duo and Arcade Card!

Now, as of right now I have no CD games.  My original plan with the Duo was to get a copy of Dracula X to go with it, but I'm trying to spend as little money as possible.  With that in mind, I plan on buying one CD game and one hucard game...or perhaps two CD games?  Who knows?  Anyway, here are some games I know I want:

Hucards:
Valkyrie no Densetsu
Genji Tsuushin Agedama
Chase HQ
Dead Moon
Shockman/Shubibinman 2

CDs:
Super Darius
Gradius II
Blood Gear (maybe)
Browning
Strider (maybe)
Gate of Thunder
Winds of Thunder
Spriggan (any of em)
Valis (any of em?)

So those are the games I want.  What are some games I SHOULD want?  You know what I like, let's hear some good titles.

*sigh* yes, but I was kind of hoping for something a little different here.

I want suggestions, yes, but I want you to talk about those suggestions.  Sell me on them.  We're all here because we have a passion for Le games, so how about exuding some of that passion here? :3

...giggity...

I actually used to own it, but I traded it in at a local game store as a loss, if that gives you any indication of how I feel about it.

I got my Mega-CD port and a Mega Cart and never looked back...

...except I kinda am a little bit.  It's pretty cheap & I like the game enough to own all the ports of it that I can.  The PCE one may be an unpolished turd, but at least it's playable.

Burn games, play them, and then decide which you want to drop coin to own.

I will pity you:

Hucards:
Chase HQ (I like it, but...)
Dead Moon (OK shootemup, nothing special, but nice)
Shockman/Shubibinman 2 (HOLD OFF--this is an acquired taste...I have yet to drink the kool aid. Shubibinman 3 CD, however, really is fun, but WAY TOO EASY. BUT WAY, WAY, WAY fun.)

CDs:
Super Darius (if you are a fan of the series, sure)
Gradius II (if you are a fan of the series, sure)

Browning (NO, for most folks. Although, it is worth it if you get it CHEAP, assuming you are obsessed with listening to all Red Book and have fun playing mediocre games...like me!)

Strider (ONLY FOR CURIOUS, big fans of Strider...I don't regret purchase, it was fun to see two extra stages, but overall, most folks won't be impressed by overall package).

Gate of Thunder (HELL YES HELL YES HELL YES)

Winds of Thunder (HELL YES HELL YES HELL YES)

Spriggan (most folks prefer the FIRST, but I also dig the sequel. THE FIRST IS FUN AS HELL, the second has already been translated and patched by BONKNUTS).

Valis (any of em?) -- This is a touchy subject. NOT EVERYONE LIKES THIS SERIES. I have always recommended Valis III, but recently I have wondered if it might get too challenging halfway through the game. IT IS AN AWESOME GAME, IMHO. I love switching between three characters and the platforming is more interesting than Valis II, which is rather simplistic, linear stage design. I AM ONE OF THE FEW ADVOCATES OF VALIS II (so, unless you love the soundtrack and average platforming...play III first). I haven't played PCE Valis I and PCE Valis IV in years and can't fairly judge them. They are both solid games, IMHO, but I need to replay them...sadly, Valis IV was not as "epic" to me as VALIS III. Playing and beating Valis III feels like an adventure/ accomplishment the first time! :)

It gives me no problems. Just burn on slow, I use 10x with Alchohol 120%

Edit: and to follow up estebon, both Thunder games are absolutely no brainers for any PCE gamer, so I guess that's my real answer, get those fo sho

STATUS:  not sure how I feel about being pitied, but I'm otherwise most pleased. ^-^

Regarding Browning, I've heard it's terrible but the presentation looks splendid & you know I'm a sucker for anything mech...and I'm a grafx whore...

And yeah, the Thunder games look spectacular, but they're just a bit pricy.  I may just go for it anyway.  That, or I might see if Black_Tiger still has his copy of Terraforming for sale.  At first I thought that game looked mediocre, but holy shit those backgrounds! ._.

Surprised no one commented on Blood Gear. Very solid title and you don't need to know how to read boxes with squiggles! I got it traded to me from a member here  and played it through and found it a fun game. I did google a few things on it to make sure i was doing things right but its a pretty straight forward mech shooter (side scroller) with some rpg goodness.

1 Was gonna grab that at some point whenever I get around to buying one of those region free cart thingies that let you play jp sega cd games.

2 Hmm yess. I still need to grab the snes game before it cracks 1 hundo... if it hasn't already, been a minute since I last checked.

Congrats on getting a Duo.

I like Browning.  It can be frustrating at time.  Controls are pretty sluggish and there's not a whole lot variety but I enjoyed it.  If you find it cheap, pick it up.
