Kaminari knows better than I, but I remember him confirming that Save Kun is similar to Memory Bank 128 and other peripherals that provided RAM for saving your games (i.e. BB1/BB2 Backup Boosters).

IIRC, Save Kun was most similar to MB128, because it only works with specific games (i.e. Brandish), unlike the Backup Booster /Tennokoe Bank 2 (which work universally).

See pictures and descriptions here

What'd he do?  I've never had a problem with hit-japan although many complain about his condition rating system (it's very variable).

He backed out on a sale.

I bought this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320005666986

A few hours later when I checked my email I noticed he had refunded my money with a note
Quote
thanks, but sorry, there are mistake at listing. Price should be $60 not
$0.01. my staff made mistake.
I'll refund you. really sorry.

Considering he was already charging quite a bit for shipping 60.00 seems quite unreasonable  a quick look at the http://www.neo-geo.com/guides/aesguide.html Neo Geo AES price guide shows the game itself is only worth 20-40 complete.

While he did refund my money it stil pissed me off, I definitely wouldn't buy from him ever again.

If I were you, I'd report him to ebay. The auction is a legal contract, and he backed out of it.  Sure, it won't get you your game, but at least ebay will probably reprimand him for it in some way.  A few years ago I had won an auction for a Neo Geo AES system for $180 (a fair price for an unmodded system with no games) and the guy did the same thing, and sent me an email that if I wanted a cheap system I should stick with the Dreamcast.  Forwarded the email to ebay and the dude got kicked off.  I then proceeded to get a better deal on an AES about a week later.

I'm not too fond of Hit-Japan, but one cent for a brand new AES cart...c'mon, that's a believable mistake. :) The price for EMS shipping doesn't seem that out of line given the size and weight of an AES game.

An aside, can anyone think of any other system that had as many add-ons, peripherals, and permutations as the PC Engine line? Honestly, after fifteen plus years of following the Turbo/PC Engine, I'm still surprised now and then by new gear for the system that I haven't seen before. Virtual Cushion still takes the cake though. :P

Just so you know, I've done a fair amount of business with this gent and never had a single problem. Shit can happen, but his feedback score speaks for itself. In doubt, PM him before jumping on a 1 cent auction.

As for the Save-kun, indeed it's a Memory Base 128 clone.

A useful precision here: the Memory Base is not an external back-up unit like the Back-Up Boosters or the Ten no Koe 2, it's a storage device like the Ten no Koe Bank. It works exactly like a TnKB actually, except it has 128 kB instead of 8. You can store up to 64 back-up RAMs instead of 4.

The only difference between the TnKB and the MB128 is that the TnKB has its own built-in bank management utility (which starts when you power up the console with the card inserted), while the MB128 needs a CD game with a dedicated (and often hidden) MB128 utility, such as Linda Cube, Emerald Dragon and a couple others.

Moreover, I seem to remember that a handful of games allow you to directly save onto the MB128. I'm not positively certain of how it works, but I believe Vasteel 2 is one of them.

NES/Famicom has a LOT of weird stuff obviously, from a robot that plays with you to the power glove to the power pad, to the U-force. Let alone all the clones and various other weird things out there.

Or somebody could be just, I don't know, cool, and just like...not do that.

I wouldn't boycott a good seller just because I couldn't manage to take advatage of an obvious mistake and weasel a 1 cent game.

Besides, I'm sure that since the shipping was so high, a guy could easily find that game for a lower total cost anyway.

People need to be more cool more often.
