What HuCARDs do you want to see fan-translated?
« on: February 20, 2015, 04:49:19 PM »
There has been a lot of activity in the dev section regarding fan-translations of CD games lately, and it got me thinking about which hucard games would be worth translating. Since hueys are generally easier to hack, I don't quite understand why there hasn't been more work done on them. I know the CD games are generally more desireable, but surely there is still some love out there for the lowly hucard.

So, which hucard games would you like to see translated from Japanese?

This would be my personal list. Though I've been out of the PCE scene for awhile so I have no idea if some of these have already been translated, especially some of the classics that exist on other systems such as the NES.

Batman
Daimakaimura
Darius Alpha
Darius Plus
Die Hard
Download
Kaizou Ningen Shubibinman (I guess that would be Shockman Zero?)
Kiki Kaikai
Ninja Ryukenden / Gaiden
Parodius Da!
R-Type II
Shinobi
Sindibad Chitei No Dai Makyu
The Tower of Druaga
Valkyrie no Densetsu

My vote goes for momotaru densetsu series. Haven't given them a shot yet but the japanese folklore theme of the game makes me think it might be pretty hard to understand with limited japanese reading comprehension

SkyeWelse,

Die Hard and The Tower of Druaga do indeed have translation patches, and Ninja Ryukenden has an English-language option built into the game. It's been a while since I played it so I may be mistaken, but I don't recall there being any Japanese at all in Batman... nor in Kiki Kaikai, Darius, or R-type, for that matter.

I totally agree with Download, Shubibinman, Sindibad, and Valkyrie no Densetsu. Those are some good ideas.

Valkyrie
Momotaro densetsu games. They are pretty good apparently.
Eternal city
Necromancer
Sindibad. There's zero info on this game.
Shada
War of the dead. Including a better password system.

I wonder if long time fans of the PCE in Japan ever work on translations from USA only games. Is there a JP patch for Beyond Shadowgate in existence?  (I know its a cd, but question just came to mind).

I would love to read/watch ANY reviews of US-only games from a PCE fan!!!!

That would be great.

Eternal City

Valkyrie no Densetsu

Genpei Toumaden
(the first one...it'd be super easy other than the coding part)

Takeda Shingen

Then there's stuff like Out Live, Xserd, and Cyber Knight that I might enjoy if they were translated...but I'm not sure about the gameplay.

I figured that I'd make a thread on this once I'm a bit further on but this seems like as good of a place as any to announce this I guess.  I got started on a translation for Eternal City a couple of weeks ago.  This is a learn-as-I-go project but I got a nice head start courtesy of Bonknuts answering a bunch of questions and pointing me in the right direction.

It will likely be a while until it's done, but whatever, it's in the works right now.

I just want you to know this makes me incredibly happy.  I love this game, but the lack of apparent direction just makes it so I don't quite enjoy it as much as I wish I could.

If this comes to fruition, Ima be buying an Everdrive before you can say "ALGIDEROSS"

I'm new at this and I haven't had much use for assembly since I took it for a semester college but I'm learning a good deal.  I figured that I'd start with hucards as there seems to be a whole lot less to worry about than CD games.  Beyond that, I picked Eternal City because it doesn't have terribly much text to begin with.  I figured I'd start with a game that I liked with less text rather than say, jumping right in and trying to translate Necromancer or something.

I'll post more about my translation project once I'm further along.

Shada Makai would be a great beginners project. The script is uncompressed and at one point I had 90% of it extracted (and someone translating it). The only problem, was the difficulty of the translation itself (the script was in old-japanese style).

Same here. This is a game that will find a new audience. It was off my radar for a long time, too. And, to be honest, the reason I was initially interested in Eternal City was because of Masamune Shirow.

I'm working on that project along with Cabbage ;) The translation is almost done :)
