Duo: Please Set Disc
« on: March 02, 2015, 10:30:34 AM »
Picked up a new Duo today.  I was purchased as "unreliable".  They were right.
On the Super System intro screen, the message "Please Set Disc" is displaying after I hit Run.
There are a few clicks, maybe a bit of a grind, and then that message appears in pink lettering.

Might need a cap job too once it's opened up.  I'm just curious if this is going to be an expensive fix.

Thanks.

Probably just cap job and pot adjustments.

Grinding? Hope it's not a problem with gear!

I don't know if you have tried this yet or not, but try moving your laser assembly all the way to the right, then try to load a game. After I installed my RGB amp, I got the set disc error and this worked for me. If your laser assembly is stuck or frozen well, that's a different story.

Really? I didn't know that. What I did was I oiled the gears and greased the rails. Then I slowly turned the big gear until the assembly was all the way to the right. Can that cause damage as well?

Okay. I should have been clearer about exactly what I did in my post. Sorry about that.

I had this before when I got my Duo-R (it was also sold as unreliable but would play originals about 50% of the time). Adjusted the pots and this made it work most of the time but occasionally it would stop working again. I re-flowed the solder on the joints of the pot on the actual lens unit and haven't had a problem since.
