The Magical Component Video Box
« on: March 02, 2015, 11:49:09 AM »
So someone built a box using the version 2 component board I sell.  The box plugs to the back of the turbografx-16/pce.  With custom quick disconnect cables, this box can also be used on a genesis, Sega master systems and snes.  I plan on building a few of these myself and offering them for sale here.  I will have enough parts to build 4 maybe 5.  Prices will be $100 before shipping for pce/tg16 only option.  Add another $25 for snes/genesis model 1/sms option.

The box will look like this minus the label.  Not sure what my labels will look.

I'm torn. I could just get this. Or I could put the money to recapping and modding a CD system.

But....damn.

I really love this idea, but I have questions. I own a Duo, which doesn't have that expansion port, so would this include a cable that would allow me to use this?

Also, will this box cause any input delay while playing? I had a bad experience where I tried a SCART-to-HDMI box that caused input delay depending on the system.

And by the way, the Genesis 2 and 32X have a different video connector from the Genesis 1 and Master System. Have you considered that?

If this box will work without any issues on my Duo-RX, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis (with Sega CD and 32X), and SNES, without lag, I would most likely buy one.

Sorry Arjak, this won't work with any of the duo systems or super cd-rom2 attachment.  Those will have to be internally modded.  I will have to look into getting cables made for the genesis 2 and CDX.  I have never noticed any delay/lag on my TV sets.

Neat little box, but that price is a bit steep...

It's something the could be produced in bigger numbers and sold cheaper I'm sure there would be a market for such a thing.

The price is a bit high, but it would make life very convenient for me. I have a Core Grafx sitting here very lonely, it'd be good to hook it up to one of the flat screens with this or use it for recordings. Count me in plz.

even though it's not cheap, it is cheaper than an actual turbobooster but also has component output as well and works with other systems? price may be up there but i'd buy one if i had the extra money forsure!

Thanks guys but I can't take credit for this.  I may come down on the price a little but will see after I built them.  I'm also considering adding composite as well.

Some snes systems output black and white on composite. But the RGB lines seem to not be affected when this problem happens. At least the 3 that i have tested, they work 100% with the box

For the SNES/Genesis/MS that output RGB w/o a mod then this would be expensive. For the TG16 or PC Engine that would normally require a mod to get RGB i think the price is pretty fair and would not require you having to ship off your system to get it done. There was/is a kickstarter for component cables for the SNES/Genesis. I've been meaning to suggest to Turbokon to use his to RGB to component board and make some component cables. I for example would be interested in some for the Saturn.
