Devil's Crush's Slow Mode
« on: March 03, 2015, 06:57:44 PM »
So this past weekend I attempted to spread some OBEY love to the girlfriend (failed experiment, btw), and the first game we played together was Devil's Crush. Since she was a filthy noob I set it to slow mode, and then I realized I had never played Devil's Crush on slow mode.

Is there anybody here that regularly plays on slow mode? No shame, no embarrassment.. ;) just genuinely curious to see if anyone likes the advantage, or even views it as an advantage, because I actually did quite worse playing on slow mode.

I feel like slow mode is actually harder.  Your responses are always a little before the ball actually hits.  I guess if you never played in normal mode, then you would be used to it tho.  I myself just always found it a harder game when trying in slow.

I can't remember playing this mode. I actually forgot it existed. I am curious about it. :)

I tried slow mode at first, but I really felt like I was waiting to do something a lot of the time. It was just too slow.

Same here. My response times were just slightly off, which made all the difference when attempting to put the ball where I needed it to go.

Although I can imagine that once you get used to the slower speed, and your response times adjust accordingly, it'll probably make the game easier.

This too!

If you want to get your slam piece in on Turbobering, you should have her play Bonk, Buster Bros, or some other cute games that aren't spazzy/effort filled.

Devil's Crush is just a great way to get someone pissed off, lol

I usually go for fast mode, but I sometimes go for slow (maybe 70/30 split).  I don't do better on slow, so I wouldn't say it's easier; it's just different and you have to adjust your timing accordingly.

We definitely played more games than just Devil's Crush  She chose games exclusively on their subject matter lol. And her first two picks were Devil's Crush and Splatterhouse because they looked the coolest to her.

She loved that Bonk chews his way up walls, but that was about it for the Bonk series. And she loved the little feet your ship gets in Fantasy Zone, but that was about all she liked from that game as well.

She did, and this is 100% true, enjoy her some Darkwing Duck!

I definitely agree that slow mode is not easier per se.

Although, I would venture to guess that once your reaction times adjusted to the slower speed, that extra second or so to react would eventually--in the long run--make the game a little easier.

...But on the other hand, I can see a "slow" game of pinball being a bit counterintuitive (primarily because most pinball experiences aren't as slow as Devil's slow mode), and developing the skill set to play a much slower game of pinball could, hypothetically, end up being just as difficult but for different reasons.

I recommend Cratermaze.

I only got to check out Cratermaze for a bit back when I used to have an everdrive.

I'll definitely give it a second go once I'm able to pick up a copy, or another everdrive, sometime in the future  :D

I'm afraid you're going to have to get a new girlfriend. This one is clearly defective.

(just kidding, of course)

Definitely kicking the old ball n' chain to the curb for that one!

I did like her justification though. Each game she picked, she picked because of the subject matter, like we all used to do as kids.

She loved Darkwing Duck because she loved the show when she was younger, and I remember enjoying a lot of games (that certainly don't hold up today) but damn did I love them because I got to play as my favorite cartoon or comic book characters.

So for a night I got to feel like a kid playing video games again, because she was enjoying them exactly how I used too  :)
