Turbo Duo for sale on Ebay with box and instructions.
« on: July 17, 2006, 01:54:16 PM »
There is a Turbo DUo on Ebay that says that it's new.  But I think it's almost new because it doesn't have the six game offer inside and the magazine.  Maybe that was only on the first batch.  Here is the link:

Turbo Duo

Buy at your own risk, but it is a nice one on ebay.  Nicer than others.

By the way, I am NOT the seller.  I'm just passing the word along since I am awaiting my Turbo Duo through UPS.  I did not get it from Ebay.  I did pay $100 more than the buy it now of the above item, but it comes with all the bonus games, and magazine.  Actually I got mine new.
Let the old mix with the new.

The later batches had 6 games but the HuCard varied from bundle to bundle, It went from Dungeon Explorer, to Ninja Spirit to several others from what I recall.

TZD was selling game-less TurboDuo's a few years ago too

Oh, ok.  I am awaitng my new Turbo Duo with six game and I believe the Turbo Force magazine.  It's sealed.  I thought they always had the pack in.  Anyway I paid $500.  Those games cost more than the $100 premium over the one on ebay.  I'm happy.

By the way, when did they start the pack-in?

The pack-in games were available at launch. It was crucial for marketing the Duo, because the price didn't seem *too* steep when you considered all the software you were getting.

You'll dig this:
TurboForce Issue #1 (June 1992)

This magazine was sent to everyone on NEC's / TurboPlay's / TTi's mailing list. It was also included with TurboDuo consoles and served as in introduction to the console and the software.

As folks have noted, the HuCard pack-in changed over time. Final Lap Twin was a strong contender, but was never used (fear of copyright infringement due to the "Marboro" billboards). Dungeon Explorer is still a mystery to me. Ninja Spirit is probably the most common HuCard pack-in, and there is anecdotal evidence that several different HuCards were ultimately used.

Why the changes in the HuCard pack-in? Good question. Personally, I think that it was simply due to the stock of games available to TTi. When stock ran low, they simply used a different title. I have never verified this, though.

News 1 and News 2 from TurboPlay #14 (August 1992)

Five pack-in games as seen in TurboForce #2 (September 1992)

Probably the most accurate info concerning the pack-ins.

Hey all, I am new here, and I know that what I say and my opinion may not be worth squat, but I have dealt with Jay on several occasions, especailly with some Rare Atari Jaguar stuff, and if he says that the unit is new, believe me, it is. Plus the fact that he runs the Jaguar Sector II forums, the last thing that he needs is stuff going around that he sells stuff as new and it isn't. Also, what's up all?

I wasn't saying that it wasn't new.  The only thing that the seller on ebay, not Jay, did was test it out, but everything else is new.  Though it isn't the Bundle d one.  The seller did say that the unit is new, but said that he had to go back to the store to pick one up.  It's the nicest one I've seen on eBay.

When I bought my TurboDuo back in the day, the pack-in HuCard was Ninja Spirit. I had received two promotional videos from TTI prior to buying my system...both were similar (TurboDuo Power! Anyone else remember these?) but one said that Dungeon Explorer was the pack-in and the other said that Ninja Spirit was the pack-in. I still remember the zine though...it had info on playing thru the first part of Ys. :)

speaking of TurboDuo boxes, did the Duo always come in that grey box, or was there another?

. o 0 (imagining what an orange-box for the duo would look like...)

I think it was that grey/silver one.  That is the one I'm getting.  Well if you get it on ebay, it comes in the packing box, which is usually brown.  ha ha.

Yeah, Jay packs the stuff really good as well, so you will get the stuff in the same shape he shipped it unless the Postal Carrier is a total mark! I got an Atari 5200 in the mail that had a hole KICKED in it by the a$$holes at the USPS! I was not very happy that day!

Well I am not buying this system because I already purchased one, so it's pointless.  I posted this for other people.  :)

Like I said, it's the nices Turbo Duo I've seen on ebay.  The buy it now price of $400 is good compared to this other guy who is selling a boxed complete Duo for that same price, but used.

I went to the 1991 - 1994 Summer CES's and got those promotional videos from signing up with something at NEC's booth. Around a year or so ago I found one of the two videos "TURBO DUO POWER! WITH TWO MEGABIT TECHNOLOGY". I remember them both.
