Personally, I think they're cool additions to the games (although the few I have end up inside the case/manual). I don't collect them and I certainly wouldn't pay more for a game just because it has the spine card...or the reg card for that matter.

On topic: I think I paid around $105 for mine posted around 3/4 months ago.

I've got spine cards to a few of my games but I put them inside the manual or between the manual and plastic tabs on the inside of the case. They're cool to have but I certainly don't collect them nor would I pay extra for one.

When I wind up with a spine card I put it behind the rear insert under the CD case.  I'm not going to go out of my way to throw them away or anything but at the same time I don't really have much use for them so I just stuff them out of sight.

Manuals still contain some original artwork and story that pertains to the actual game, understandable. Cases keep the game in a protective cover with original artwork.  spine cards ____ ??

Look at tknjin's two examples and you'll see that some spine cards have rudimentary art (even if it's just the game logo) and a short game description.

Shoot,  I feel a little remorse for throwing out some spine cards now. Always just seemed like part of the packaging. I'll try to scan later ones and save them in the case if they fit

Yeah, some that are really well done will extend the cover art to the edge of the case.  Sol Feace and Time Gal on the Mega CD are two examples I can think of off the top of my head.

@poponon, Don't stress out on it, it's not like your game will no longer worth without the obi or something.  I like to keep them because they're a neat addition, but they add nothing to the gameplay.  :P

Was a year or two ago, but I think I got my copy of the game for like $89 or something about that range.

All in all it will be worth the 130 you spend on the game because trust me you will always pop that game back into your PC engine many times just to play it through. Also I would make sure that the CD case has not really yellowed because you are throwing down some hard cash.

It is super easy to get a replacement white CD tray.

Edit:

THREAD UPDATE:  I just checked, and my copy of Drac X does have the spine card.  Thank f*ck for that.  I was about to just throw the whole f*cking thing in the garbage.  I had a quick look through the rest of my collection, which I now realize is worthless, for the most part.

I just replaced my yellow-ing cd tray on my Drac X with a much whiter one. Now the value has gone up by at least $20!

Oh gosh, spine cards... I feel like if the game has it then cool! If it doesn't, who cares? As far as displaying them goes, I'm with Black Tiger on this. Unless these games are displayed facing outward, (like on a wall maybe) side-by-side in a shelf would just look unappealing and asymmetrical to me. Not to mention that if I wanted to play a game, I would just... want to play it, not turn it into the ritual of carefully unpacking part of a mantle piece of LOOK I HAZ COMPLEET GAME. Don't get me wrong, if you do collect spine cards, good for you. You like 'em cuz you like 'em and that's all that should matter. For me, I got to live in the heyday of this console and have had the pleasure of opening that new game, whatever that game was, for the first time. And I'll never forget that feeling.

Back on subject, I got my second copy of Dracula X on YA for 7900 yen plus 1600 yen with fees and shipping, I had sold my original (and not so pristine) copy in 2007 and have long since regretted it until I got this last copy. They were obi-less but back then no one gave a crap, or we were all young and dumb. Prolly the latter :P

I won one recently for 140 with spine and registration.  In quite minty shape, depending on the 130 if it is spined I would say that is a good deal.  If not I say nay, then again I don't buy any pc engine CD game without its spine card. This was a copy I got for a buddy of mine.

Well, at least you have your priorities straight.

One time I unknowingly bought a PC Engine CD game that was missing it's spine card.  I ended up having to replace the laser in my Duo.

Spine card collectors are a special class of retard. I honestly do not know if my copy of Drac X has the spine card or not. Maybe I tucked it into the manual, maybe I don't have it in the first place.  Who f*cking cares?  It's not like we're talking about the hang tabs on Genesis games, or anything.  What the f*ck kind of barbarian rips those off???

LOL!  I had an old co-worker who told me he used a straight razor on all of his genisis cases back in the day.

It's ok tknjin, I don't judge even though that is pretty obsessive compulsive.

To display all my games I use a couple of these:

I use spine cards as bookmarks.  The Sapphire spine card is marking the page in Damiano right now.
