How much does Dracula X go for these days? I have the opportunity to buy it for $130 US - is this a good price? Thanks!

seems like you in Hong Kong, US$130 ( HK$1000) is a bit pricey for castlevania, in the shops, I have seen it as low as HK$800 in shop with spine card some time ago, however, most gamers in hong kong use a facebook group to avoid a lot of the expensive stores, I have seen it as low as HK$600 without spine card

if you use the commonly used online auctions in HK, avoid the rip off seller with hundreds of listings and no bids, the gamers avoid this seller like the plague due to stupid prices

Yep, indeed I'm in HK. $1000 is the cheapest I've been quoted from a store. The guy said he doesn't have any copies of it yet and needs to "order it from Japan" first. My friend in Japan did a price check and the cost was $120 US.

Facebook groups, huh? Any chance of a link? :)

sadly most Chinese, but most do understand basic English (ie, buy/ 要 copy and paste this), first come first serve, you need to join the group, there are a few overseas Chinese ( who can't read chinese ) and odd westerner here

there are a lot of bargains, but some items which are popular by demand by hk locals are not cheap here, but other are much cheaper than US, Japan or Europe

however, pc engine items are not as common here ( but more common than us and europe, not including rip off sellers ), lots of super famicom, ps2, ps1, Saturn, etc

some rare stuff occasionally pops up

note. some bargains are snapped really really quickly , remember copy and paste (要 = means want)  for the items you want to buy on offer.

It's also noted that this ebay based seller in japan ships to HK, reasonable prices and some good rare and really rare stuff ( but the bids can be really high)

I noticed PC Engine Dracula X price has never really changed. It costs approximately the same now as what I paid for it on import when it was released. It is one of the greatest games of all time, so I've always expected the price to rocket but it never has. My only conclusion is it's truly not a rare game at all. There's always enough copies about to meet demand, so the price has never increased.

I think a kind of similar thing about Sega Saturn Radiant Silvergun, which over the last 15 years has got to be one of the most hyped import retro games. Yet with all the hype the price seems to remain static to what it cost in 2001. Again there must be enough copies about to meet demand.

Where I have noticed recently a massive increase in price is in Super Famicom games, it's crazy. A large percentage of the library has tripled or even quadrupled in price within the last two years. I'm not talking only eBay here, I mean also the prices in Japan itself. I think one factor is because of the delicate cardboard boxes they came in, finding good condition complete ones has become more and more scarce.

I thought that was already established, games like Drac X and Radiant are not rare, is just the supply is in the hands of a few (sort of).

Not long ago, Drac X was going for $75 for what seemed like s few years.

Radiant Silvergun is not rare at all and was very cheap during the 90's. Most EBs had several copies and they were sold for very little above the price of domestic games. Just like Sylphia, once the "shump!" sayers were told that these games were actually developed by teams who worked on famous schtroumpfs, they all suffered permanent brain damage and have employed gougers ever since.

Sylphia in particular is a game I talked about a lot and showed what I could of it, but most reactions were simply "meh" and the most it ever sold for was $30 - $40. For it to jump straight to $200 - $300 is as unnatural as it gets and the game is now a monument to collectardation.

I wish I bought Sylphia when I had a chance, back before the insanity.

I used to think $50-60 was way too much.

Ughhhhh.

I managed to pick up a copy for £65 last year (mint condition too), and I almost baulked at paying that. 12 months later and it seems to be selling for almost double.

It's a dangerous thing as it kind of supports this thing in my head that if I want it, then I'll just have to buy it. These things don't seem to be getting any cheaper.

So, basically I am part of the problem  ](*,)

Just checked and PC Engine Dracula X does seem to be selling for a bit more recently.
But I would say though that 98% of the Japanese PC Engine library has not gone up in price in years.
The really common games are definitely cheaper because of all those large 100+ game lots that have been on eBay over the last few years from sellers like hit-japan, it's completely saturated the western market with the cheap common games. Overall all the other games I would say are either the same static price or if anything slightly cheaper than a few years ago. There's a very small handful of games that have increased in price. One of these is Tatsujin which has shot up in price.
