Not long ago, Drac X was going for $75 for what seemed like s few years.

After the PSP version and Wii Virtual Console version came out prices on it tanked. Until looking through this thread I was unaware they had spiked again.

Radiant Silvergun is not rare at all and was very cheap during the 90's. Most EBs had several copies and they were sold for very little above the price of domestic games. Just like Sylphia, once the "shump!" sayers were told that these games were actually developed by teams who worked on famous schtroumpfs, they all suffered permanent brain damage and have employed gougers ever since.

Yep, after the Saturn died in North America a lot of EBs, Babbages and Software ETC started carrying Saturn imports, Action Replays and ST keys. I remember seeing the Saturn version of Symphony of the Night, Radiant Silvergun, the various Capcom fighting games for sale in 1998 or so in regular indoor mall game shops.

You know it's interesting, it seems like shooting type games really do have their own bubble within a bubble going on currently.  It used to be that retro RPGs were the the games that commanded the highest prices by genres, but shooters have been going through the roof.

I think like 90% of the current Genesis inflation that's going on right now is based purely on the shooters in the system's library.  Also applicable to a lot of PCE stuff as well.

I do think this is related to the available games to the public on modern consoles. Resogun is the only mainstream shmup that comes to mind (I'm sure there are more, but not on the front page of the PSN store for example) I think a lot of people look to the past for games they haven't played when the new releases don't appease their desires. More modern shmups would probably affect people's inclination to go back to older shmups and play them. With the rise of mobile RPGS, indie JRPG's, and generally a lot of new RPGs out there (Tales series, Ni No Kuni, etc) that there is less of a desire to go dig out old "new to me" games for that genre. Only reason I think this hasn't happened to action platformers is that this style has never dried up - it's a indie darling genre that's constantly flooded with great new titles.

RPGs and Shoot em ups age well.

Other genres of games generally don't age quite as well. RPGs are still being made, but you can get the same fun experience from a 20 year old RPG as a brand new one. That can't generally be said for sports, action games, early FPS's, or fighting games.

RPGs and Shoot em ups age well.

Perhaps it's just nostalgia talking here, but I honestly don't feel that technology and time have been very kind to these two particular genres.  I realize that Cave and Touhou games have their audiences, but modern shooters feel like a giant mess to me.  I can't even enjoy looking at the screen as they are generally covered so liberall-y with projectiles that I can't make sense of anything.

Meanwhile, RPGs are a genre that I just can't play on systems from about PS2 onward.  I still love 8, 16, 32 bit RPGs but most RPGs made in more modern times simply irritate me more and more.  At some point during, say, the 32 bit era it became the vogue thing for the story sequences to become longer, more involved, and (to me) way worse.

I can boot up old favorites or find new-to-me games from the era in these two genres and have an enjoyable experience.  That being said the more recent Final Fantasy, Tales, Star Ocean, etc I just can't enjoy them the same way.  There are exceptions of course.  Yeah, they're both a bit old by this point but I thought Gradius 5 was fantastic and likewise for Dragonquest 9.  I guess my point is these two genres work just as well on older hardware and for that reason prices have gone up or at least stayed relatively consistently high.  Sometimes there's just no need for an upgrade when what you've got is perfectly serviceable.

They're two genre's that don't benefit greatly from improvements in graphics or processing power. So a well designed RPG or Shoot em up from the 16-bit era and a well designed RPG or Shoot em up from today differ almost only in presentation.

Unless the developer feels the need to add unnecessarily. I prefer the 8/16 shooters over modern day ones due to generic shifts. Today's shooters generally prefer the twitchy bullet hell with bright, colorful bullets, while I like my shooters like Striker 1945 or Sonic Wings, fast action, feeling like you're actually navigating a barrage of enemies, not some slow-moving glow sticks.

With RPGs, it seems the worst of the old games (grinding, fetch quests) either got worse or were almost entirely eliminated. Balance is largely lost, and the genre feels like it has descended into stereotypes. Granted, it was never that innovative to begin with.

It seems like $170-300 depending now f*cking stupid the noob in question is at any given time.

Honestly, not really that bad considering there are 1000 new PCE people every year, apparently all pissed off that PCE prices aren't what they were the year before, ignoring the obvious fact they them getting into PCE is the reason the price went up.

It's still a good value for a great 20+ year old video game collectible.

$700 for a tacky bootleg made this year is unbelievable.

I found this locally on Saturday with the Tennokoe bank.

So this means they valued the game at about 140$ or so.

I couldn't leave it there for some f*ckup to buy and resell for the eBay prices.

Anything from 120-150$ is "OK" right now, but still a bit mental.

The game has always been pricey, though.

This price was cheaper than what it's been going for in Japan lately, too.   Sometimes, the Exchange f*cks up in our favor.

But the real question is how much that BK soda was.

And would the tranny in your avatar approve?

Lol every time I see that avatar I remember that thread someone made of "her". Then fail at remembering "her" name.

However I am sure "she" is happy to have the use of a public bathroom that she can used based on "her" gender "she" identifies with.
