Turbo Express problem.....
« on: March 10, 2015, 10:39:52 AM »
Hello again guys....I am afraid I may be screwed....I just bought a Turbo Express on ebay for $280.  It was new in open box.  Condition is totally flawless.....but it does not seem to load a game.  I put in batteries and the screen comes on but doesn't load anything(or so it appears not too).  I tried 4 different games that I know work on my TG-16, and these do not boot.  The backlight comes on and thats it. no sound, no image change....the dials on the side do nothing.  The brightness dial does not even seem to do anything to the screen.  I know these are notorious for video and sound issues...but to not even load the game?  Any idea what it might be or should I try and get my money back?  Thanks for the input in advance. :)

If it really is new and untouched, I'm sure it needs caps.

That is probably true as I suspected but I would at LEAST expect it to load the game......or is this not a correct assumption :P

The game might be booting, but you can't tell.  With bad sound caps, you'll not hear it; with bad video caps, you'll not see it.

sounds like it needs a recap.  doesn't matter how flawless it is on the outside, these things all have rotten caps on the inside.  once the video caps go bad you will not get any picture at all on the screen.  its binary.  either it works or it doesn't.  there is no graceful degradation.

try putting a set of earphones in the jack.  you should hear sound from the ear jack even if it doesn't have any from the external speaker.  if you hear sound, the game is loading fine, its just the caps.

understood. I will do a recap!  I never looked at it as just not being able to see the video or not.
