TG-16 AV Color Issue (blues showing up as red)
« on: March 20, 2015, 04:00:57 PM »
Hey everyone, having a little problem with my TG16's video. It's occuring on both RF and the AV out via the expansion port. Most of the colors are alright but on Keith Courage the background is red (as you can see), instead of blue. Anyone seen this before or have an idea what's causing it? I won't be able to open it up and investigate it until I get home tomorrow, but when I can, i'll take a look inside.

Possibly a bad capacitor?

Thanks

I should also note: I'm not using an original power adapter. I'm using a third party adapter supplied to me by the shop I bought it from so this could very well be the problem as well. Any other first party adapters for other consoles (NES, Master System, Genesis, etc) that work perfectly on the TG16?

EDIT: right off the bat, notice it's obviously 9.5v where the TG16 requires 10.5v. I take it that's my problem. Can anyone suggest a proper power supply? I own most consoles so if another consoles adapter works for the TG16, that'd be easiest for me.

What is causing it?   Dusk in the Alpha Zones!

That looks normal for the level... I think it is level 3.

That pic is from the demo that plays when you turn on the system right?  If you press "run" the first level should have a blue sky.

Sometimes there are days when I just feel like an absolute noob. You're absolutely right, but I could have sworn that it was happening when I was using RF. I must have been mistaken. Any idea what could cause horizontal scrolling bars? It could very well just be the CRT i'm testing it on and i'll try it on my PVM when I get home tomorrow.

I was all lol over this. Anyway, RF provides a terrible picture. You could mod the system itself for composite out, s-video, RGB, or component output. Hit up Turbokon and discuss your options with him.

Oh yeah, also:

You can always buy that or buy a Ten no Koe 2 and mod it yourself for composite, RGB, or component out. It would be worlds cheaper then a Turbobooster Plus and function better. Also, as a cheap low budget alternative, you could buy this guys things:

Thanks for the support, dudes!

My PCE IFU is actually in the hands of turbo himself as we speak (for RGB) and I've ordered the few parts I need to give the TG16 composite out which i'm definitely looking forward to. I decided to actually use a TRRS (single 3.5mm audio/video) jack, gut the RF, and install it in the RFs place to avoid having to drill excessive holes in the case which I just know i'd screw up. I did also create one of those solderless composite cables for the time being that just connects to pins on the expansion port.

One last thing: Are the ten no koe 2's worth picking up? I know the backup isn't especially useful, but would it be worth buying one locally for $40 for future modding opportunities?

Outside of being able to be fully modded, yeah they are fairly handy. I mean, you get game save feature for hu-cards. Kind of needed for stuff like Neutopia 1 and 2 and some other titles unless you want to write down long ass passwords.

Thanks, sounds like it's probably worth investing in.

Lastly, third party DC NES power adapters are bad. Now using the Genny 1 power adapter and everything works great.
