PRICE CHECK: boxed complete USA turbo duo
« on: June 02, 2015, 05:22:43 PM »
I have the option of buying a complete USA turbo duo in the box (no modifications but works). It also comes with 5 common games. The asking price is $350

Is this too much?

Not necessarily. But has it been refurbished? If not you will have to get it recapped and re geared soon. If you're not bothered about the box or having the us version I recommend getting a refurbished and video modded one from a forum member here

What games? 5 common games that are awesome are worth much more (entertainment-wise) than 5 games that suck (Ballistix, Darkwing Duck, etc.)

It comes with street fighter 2, R-type 1, Cyber City OEDO 808, Bikkuriman World and Exile XZR.  Box and system in very nice shape.

Is that average price? on the high side? good find?

if that really is a US TurboDuo and it isn't region mod'd, SFII, R-Type (I'm assuming this is the PC Engine version since the US didn't break it up into I and II), and Bikkuriman World will NOT work on that console

About $100 difference, I'd say.

The US Duo is more pricey than a Japanese one? I always thought the Duo R and Duo RX were the ones that commanded a premium with the US or JP regular Duos coming out to about the same.

When I was shopping for my Duo, the R/RX was indeed more expensive, but the JP Duo was about $100 cheaper or so than the US Duo. I imagine because most people want to play the US RPGs without having to worry about modding it?

More likely, the Duo just didn't sell as well in the US as in JP so it requires a greater expenditure.  CD games are region-free.

At current prices from most expensive to cheapest:
1: USA Turbo Duo
2: PC Engine Duo-RX
3: PC Engine Duo-R
4: PC Engine Duo (black and purple)

Since it release my favourite model of Duo has always been the original Japanese black and purple one. In fact it's my favourite console of all time.
Over the last 10 years the Duo-R and Duo-RX seems to be a more popular model. Not just because of the capacitors, people appear to like them more cosmetically, which I don't agree with.
