my pcengine top 15 platformers
« on: July 08, 2015, 02:22:08 PM »
Ok, we all know the Shmups on the pcengine are top notch, but I wanted to find some hucard based platformers, that are not available on the turbografx.

I welcome your comments, as I am very new to this system.  By the way, if any of these are available on the tg-16, I would love to know the US title.

In no particular order:

Busou Keiji - Cyber Cross
City Hunter
Cross Wiber - Cyber Combat Police
Dragon Egg!
Fushigi no Yume no Alice
Jigoku Meguri
Juuouki - Altered Beast
Maerchen Maze
Ninja Ryuuken Den - Ninja Gaiden
The Ninja Warriors
Obocchama-kun
Rastan Saga II
Son Son II
Toshi Tensou Keikaku - Eternal City
Youkai Douchuuki

None of the games you listed are on the TG-16.

The Cross games are trash. Unfortunately.

Ninja warriors and altered beast are beat em ups.

Dragon Egg is okay. If you die you're screwed. If you don't it is really easy.

SonSon II and Jigoku Meguri are the best games on your list. Ninja Gaiden is good too.

MAKAI PRINCE DORABOCCHAN

Peach boy aka MOMOTARŌ KATSUGEKI  is good

Rastan Saga II
God no. Stay away.

Toshi Tensou Keikaku - Eternal City
Got it, played it and sold this one this year. Nothing to revolutionary, give it a go but I doupt you'd hold on to it for long. It does take a few levels to get interesting(slow power up system, repetitive game play)

Platformer for PCE? US got a lot of the "good" ones...Axe, Bonk, Splatter, Cadash, Jackie, Adventure Island, Ninja Spirit.

Are you staying on HuCards b/c of a flash cart? There are some CD import platformers...namely Drax X.

And Rainbow Island. It's pretty much arcade perfect, besides the CD loading time.

Because they exist for the tg16, I was just looking for games not available on the turbografx

Jackie Chan is just a fun, fun platformer. Good music, too.

I know: it doesn't seem like it would be anything special. But it is. It is a nicely executed, solid game.

Son Son II

Ever wondered what Monster World would be like if it was arcade-length, balls difficult, and the platforming was masterful as opposed to merely passable? Then play this. Quite possibly the best PCE sidescroller period.

Maerchen Maze

Charming as hell Alice In Wonderland-inspired platformer. As enjoyable as it is, it's admittedly lacking in replay value since the difficulty doesn't really kick in until the last couple levels, and many levels end before they can reach their full potential. Nonetheless, fun while it lasts, and definitely a marked improvement over the arcade original.

Fushigi no Yume no Alice

Boring as hell Alice In Wonderland-inspired platformer. Avoid.

Also, since it wasn't on your list, I'd like to point out that Genji Tsuushin Agedama is an underrated hucard platformer that everyone should look into. Pretty tame during the earlier levels, though you'll be forced to master that evasive roll if you hope to stand a chance late in game. Interesting weapon system where you release the fire button at precise intervals to get different attacks (though once you're at max power, you're advised to just spam the lightning shower with impunity.) Highly recommended.

Spooky,

Genji Tsuushin Agedama was on my list at first, because I thought it was a platformer, but when I played it and realized that you are in perpetual motion, and shooting constantly, I decided to classify it as a Shmup and took it off my list.

Fushigi no Yume no Alice is a great game for my 10 year old daughter.

Thanks Spooky, and everybody who responded to this thread!
