Hello, new guy from the uk.

HELPFUL GUIDE:
http://pcenginefx.com/main/nec_compatibility_guide.html

8bitAl: I prefer the PCE/TG-16 and all the quirky "Heath Robinson"  configurations to the DUO (the DUO is nice, certainly, but lacks all the charm and personality of the other PCE/TG-16 hardware).

The GRAY CD hardware you posted is known as SUPER CD (not to be confused with the Super CD-ROM2 (SCD) format, which was an upgrade from the original CD-ROM2 format for games).

Yes, it gets confusing.

It's hilarious when non British people think of stereotypes of Britishness. Pretty much spot on with the drinking tea though, it is pretty much an institution here (in England). Not sure about crumpets though.

Then just what do you have for a snack after a long game of Cricket?

That's the word I was looking for, personality.  Yes , things need a personality! I drive a n '89 Mk2 Golf Gti
for that very reason.

So let me get this right; the orange and grey CoreGrafx 2 has a super CD plumbed into the back of it?

Will said CD attachment play all CD games with the correct Hu card stuck in the front?

^ Let's do this like maths:

White PCE (original model) + SCD =
CoreGrafx I (blue logo) + SCD =
CoreGrafx II (orange logo) + SCD =
DUO

The SCD (and the DUO) has a System Card 3.0 built-in, so you can play 98% of the PCE library with PCE + SCD.

If you want to play the ARCADE CD-ROM2 titles, you'll need an Arcade System Card (two versions exist, either one will work).

One game, due to quirks, will only play with System Card 1.0: Altered Beast CD-ROM. You can play with other system cards, but the game will crash at some point (I'll allow other folks to provide the details).

Brilliant, that's cleared things up for me, next question though; what's a ballpark figure for what I should be paying?

Dollars is fine as things I buy from Japan are usually priced that way. :)

Did you talk to Keith Courage to see if he has some refurb units? It might save you some time and money..

A pint of bitter ... Theakston's XB please, if you're buying! Oh ... and a packet of "scratchings", too.

Gawd ... sometimes I really miss home!

Well ... it's Friday, so off to a microbrewery. At least America finally has some decent beer to drink!

Hahaha ... if you're going for the SuperCDROM, and aren't too fussed about pairing it with the Core Grafx II to have matching orange logos ... then you can go for the best (and weirdest looking) PC Engine system of them all ...

Super Grafx + SuperCDROM!  :D

I can't see that happening, got to have matching orange logos otherwise I'm likely to explode from ocd overload.

I believe so, all you need to do is ask. :)

<sigh> You'll be missing out on all those wonderful half-dozen SuperGrafx games!

Anyway ... if you do go for the Core Grafx II + SCD, then avoid the new Turbo Everdrive 2 until krikzz redesigns it.

Great! I'll check him out.

Too late for the everdrive, it landed the other day. Apparently it's ok with Pal TurboGrafx.  Time will tell, just waiting on a SD card then I'm going to give it a whirl.

Like a kid in a sweet shop at the mo'.

Good question, I'm not sure, but definitely never heard of cricket with crumpets.  :D

I love cricket with strumpets.

Or, I'll just take the strumpets.

I'm not English, though.
