Pinning down early Genesis release "windows"...
« Reply #15 on: July 30, 2015, 11:34:19 PM »
Ok good I'll find my games from '89/90!

Comrade, it is about having evidence of the *actual* release dates being verified by *receipt* or *distinct memory* or ______.

For example, I know I played GOLDEN AXE and LAST BATTLE and THUNDERFORCE  II on my friend's Genesis before Xmas 1989.

No, no, I couldn't have. Because I remember showing my same friend Valis II, Monster Lair, Ys I & II around the same time. Maybe it was the winter of 1990? Winter of 1991?

See?

Memories are suspect. I honestly can't pinpoint when I got TG-CD...1990? 1991? Season?

Oh ok well I remember Alex Kidd in the enchanted castle in '89 in a store somewhere but it was clearly '89 cuz I was pissed that SNES was not here and was hyped for SMB3!
The Dreamcast is still alive, so go play it before it kills your family!

Still could have been 1990. SMB3 was released in Feb. 1990 in USA (1991 in PAL territories).

Maybe if I hit "report to moderator" Joe will see it?

Joe is good at replying when you respond to a post of his, so I would go into the GameSack thread, reply to a post, but explain that you are really trying to confirm some of these titles (I would include link to this thread, but I would include the specific handful of 1989vs1990? titles—Revenge on top of Shonibi, Zuul!, etc.—over in GameSack thread...because what if he doesn't want to follow the link?)

Of that doesn't work, PM him and put "Stephen Baldwin" in the title.

That worked. Also anything Stephen Baldwin is a win. Except when it's not.

As I said in the other thread I'm not sure if World Championship Soccer was released later than the other launch day games. I think it was a launch game but I don't have any real evidence. I just recall seeing it in the store along with Thunder Force 2 and the other listed launch games. But now that I think about it I'm not sure if Tommy Lasorda Baseball was a launch game as I don't recall seeing it THAT early. It may have been. Memory is a fickle thing.

Also I question the Ghouls 'n Ghosts release date as being in September. I think it was October. I got it right away and my first entry in the scorebook part of the manual was on 10-31-89. I don't think it would take me an entire month to get a score like that. By the way "mega end" means that I got through both playthroughs. The "end" after that score likely means the same thing.

Thanks, Joe.  I'm actually most interested in the release of Forgotten Worlds, Mystic Defender, The Revenge of Shinobi and Zoom!.  Got any clear memory of those?

Thanks!!!

I'm pretty sure Revenge of Shinobi was 1989. Forgotten Worlds I have no clue as I didn't get that until after Christmas. Mystic Defender again no idea. I only ever rented Zoom and that's the only time I have ever played it. No clue when that was. I do remember, however, that t sucked pretty hard.

Yeah Zoom! is not a particularly good game.  Anyway, thanks for having a look!
