« on: August 03, 2015, 07:47:09 AM »
i mean.. i love the Turbograx-16 , PCengine and duos..
its a great console and i love showing games to people who dont know a thing about it :)

but when i go against casual fanboys who knows shit....
i'm surely not the only one here that is pissed off.
anything you try to show those kind of fanboys/girls...they ALWAYS bring something up

-bonk looks dumb.. what a huge head, sonic or mario are way better..
-what kind of video game cart is that !? must be looking worst then the nes...
-haha a cd-rom attachement.... sega did one way earlier...they're just trying to copy... (wtf ._. )
-ONE controller... come on ! this console is just a pain
-blazing lazer ? yeah it looks ok but look here i got M.U.S.H.A.... it worth way more and its crazy...

etc. i could go on forever... (and don't worry ...not my friends... no way)

¬_¬ sometime i just want to put a hockey mask and use a huge 2x4 and kill'em all..
any scary stories like this happening to you ?

Seems like an unusual sort of issue to run into, and not something that would bother me really. Let them live in their ignorance.

I do think it is funny that folks make such a big deal about a single port...get over it!

A much bigger sin, in my eyes, was that standard TG-16 did not offer composite A/V. NES had it, so I felt it was a step backward.

Basically, the mentality I have often encountered, can be encapsulated as follows:

"I only know about _____, and therefore feel uncomfortable/apathetic towards everything else. I am not particularly interested to learn more about ______ because apathy/brain hurts."

Of course, I am guilty of setting parameters for my own interests, too. I tend to focus on 8-/16-bit consoles (and handhelds)  almost exclusively, so I am guilty of narrowing my interests, relatively speaking. My brain hurts when I see/hear folks talking about PS3 and beyond (usually, anyway).

I'm now genuinely curious which this forum hates worse.

(1) Turbografx? Looks lame. I don't care to learn about it.

(2) Turbografx? I learned about it yesterday! I want to get ALL THE GAMES! Cardboard boxes too!

Nowadays, I agree with you, but as a kid, the one controller port was a huge thing, at least where I lived.  Having a younger brother, two player games were a necessity, and having to buy another piece of hardware was a big deterrent.  Add to the fact that if the hardware doesn't natively support a second controller, then game designers are less likely to want to design multiplayer games because there is less of a market available to play it.  And then on the flip side, when I was a kid, the last thing I was thinking about was image quality - I didn't even really know there was a difference.  Just getting the system up and running in our room was a success, I had no idea how it worked or what was the best method.  Looking back, we used to have all our systems daisy chained through the coaxial input, one RF adapter after another.  Amazing we had any picture at all, really!
I'm a notorious strange man.

You forgot option 3: DarkKobold.

Edit: OP, every situation in your post can be easily resolved by telling the other person to f*ck off, with no further explanation given.

The latter. The former are just an annoyance of dealing with ignorance online, but their actions are ultimately beneficial. Less people in the pool trying to snap up Magical Chases, the better prices are for us who just want a function huey. The latter suck out resources from places like here and then when they get bored of their hobby du jour, they inevitably turn to eBay to maximize their losses, because we all know they paid top $ for it by resellers. Or drove up eBay auctions to grab it. Or bought sealed games for god knows what reason. Point being, they're the real bastards.

!! I've done that !!
After about 5 systems chained like that, I started looking for something better...and found out how to composite mod (A/V) a few systems.
Then it was buy a system or two, buy another A/V switch box. I think at one time I had 5 of them hooked together.
Ahhhh, the good old days. :)

I had two s-video 4 switch and 1 component 3 switch. Finally just undid them all. It got to be a bad mess (took down the pictures, otherwise searching for "rat's nest" here would have shown you just how bad it got). The wife could no longer put up with it. Not the only consoles which remains always hooked up are the Saturn and Dreamcast, and that's to preserve their batteries.

In an alternate reality it might have resulted in developers avoiding multiplayer games. In this reality the PCE got some of the best multiplayer experiences of the generation and lots of great 5 player games.

Where I lived, a TurboTap + TurboPad equalled roughly the same price as a first party Genesis pad. Either way you weren't playing anything with your Brother straight out of the box and had to spend money to unlock multiplayer.
