Ghost manor: Why all the Hate?
« on: August 25, 2015, 12:44:02 PM »
I don't know, it's always been one of the games that grabbed my attention for the system. I know, falling Hell, slippery slopes, slippery control...heard it all. The terrible music, which I actually LOVE. I have heard people compare this to E.T. for the 2600 and it makes me wonder what the Hell they are smoking? I hear complaints about the graphics, which I also happen to like...why all the hate for this game? It's really not all that bad. I seem to see more people give Darkwing Duck more praise than Ghost manor, and at that point, you are a sadist, my Friend.

It is a 16-bit Wizards & Warriors-style game. If it had officially used that license and appeared on SNES, it would be considered a classic and would sell loose for $300 on eBay, with a slew of hard to spot repros in the mix.

Awesome! LOL. However, funny you should point this out. I actually am not really a big fan of Wizards and Warriors though I like ghost manor...go figure? Perhaps it is the content? Theme?

Ugh, I seriously hate this game, but love DW Duck. I think its just the poor play controls, mixed with the poorly designed levels that make this an atrocity. DW Duck is enjoyably bad. Ghost Manor is just bad, with zero redeeming qualities.
Hey, you.

I don't know, really. I used to own Darkwing Duck and used to feel the same way as you, but from playing it when I was a kid. point being, when I replayed it as an adult, I realized what a Nightmare of a game it was. My memory was clouded by that, Hey, you are going to enjoy it because it's a new game and you don't get new games often mind set. Needless to say, to each their own, but I don't think I would say that Darkwing Duck is so bad it's good...half of that statement is true...LOL

I still have yet to try it, though I do recall seeing it demoed at Toys R Us back in the early 90s.

I like Ghost Manners* I try to play it at least every Halloweenish after accidentally obtaining it along with Splatterhouse and such.

Issue #1: Folks complain about the open level design (these are the same people who have difficulty navigating from their own bed-to-toilet).

Issue #2: Folks complain of their "brain hurting" because of #1

Issue #3: No Disney license, so no reason to play it.

Issue #4: No pedophile porn, so no reason to play it.

...

Issue #11: RARE didn't make this, so no reason to play it.

Issue #12: No video game + comic book cross-promotion, so no reason to know game exists.

Issue#13: Comic is more awesome than video game.

First Deep Blue, now Ghost Manor - what's the next piece of mediocre trash that will be "rediscovered" as a "gem"? Auto-Crusher Palladium? Power Gate? Fighting Run? Slime World? The possibilities are endless!

It was one of my few games I got brand new back in the days ! I finished it few times and thought it was ok.

Tried it again few months back and damn... i really changed my mind on that game since I have other ones to play !

I'll still have to play it all the way to the end some time. Just not soon LOL

I don't think it's horrible (I actually like how it looks), but it's definitely not a very good game.
