I'm suddenly having visions of a version of Rock and Roll Highscool based on the Velvets.

The closest the Ramones got to VU was "53rd and 3rd".

That said, Lou Reed's "Transformer" is on my TT often.

I can't say the Ramones ever really got close to Velvet Underground, but I hear you.

It's fun to think about what a band might have done if they broke out of their own formulas/recipes.

Zeta, didn't you say that there are certain artists or albums that you associate so strongly with a particular medium that it just seems natural to listen to it today the same way?

I feel that way about sooooo much stuff I listened to as a kid, even goofy stuff.  I still remember when I had to flip the record and the B-side instrumental versions (lame!).

There's no comparison between Ramones and VU or Lou Reed. Transformer and Ziggy Stardust have no parallel, and both are in the top 10 greatest albums of all time (for me).

Sadly, I have two Ziggy Stardust vinyls and no Transformer vinyl.

I don't think anyone was seriously comparing VU to The Romones. That would just be insane.

Oh, I know folks were not serious. :)

Forget about Ziggy...all of Bowie's albums get their own goddamn cathedral, but something tells me you folks wouldn't want to include some of the early 80's albums.

Anyway, I am serious, all Bowie 70's albums...except that one with all the cover songs...I've worn them out. No, really. I had a cheap TT in the first half of my life and a dime on the stylus did unspeakable wear and tear to my albums. But I don't care.

Nope - love em both, but what I meant was, the song "53rd and 3rd" is thematically similar to a lot of Lou's stuff.

Since we are keeping tabs - I have 3 Ziggy's and one Transformer.

I go from Scary Monsters straight to Let's Dance, and nothing afterward.

I still have my Drum n Bass vinyl collection from the early 2000's that i will never sell. I also have a small collection of 70s-80s rock.
I just recently picked up an sl-1210 that im in the process of stripping down and painting.
Im not really into buying more records anymore though, i want to use it with timecoded vinyl.
I just want it for the nostalgia haha!!!

One copy is a recent reissue that I'm keeping for sure and the other is slightly warped "Nice Price" from the 80s that's probably worth less than shipping.

Do you have record stores where you live? Being in Ann Arbor I can get this stuff from five different places all within walking distance of each other, but I forget sometimes that relatively few people in America can do that anymore.
