Oh, yeah, there are tons of record stores around here. The well-known stuff tends to be already picked up or overpriced, so I generally don't even bother, especially since I'm not a real collector.

I have two Transformers and no Ziggy.

I don't think anyone was seriously comparing VU to The Romones. That would just be insane.

You got Transformer the Movie on LP?

You don't have enough record stores then. Here you can get pretty much anything that isn't Zeppelin or Beatles for less than $10, often less than $5.

It's not the stores, it's the number of people around me. 8.4 million people with a huge hipster population means a-plenty of vulturing.

You guys would love the thrift near my house, tons of records and they're normally like $2-4 each.  Lots of times stuff makes it to 50% off day as well so it can be as low as a $1.  I do see a lot of old collector dudes digging through the pile regularly though, so I have a feeling they snag a lot of the choice stuff, I don't really know enough to grab the "high value" items.

Thrift stores...require a lot of patience. I do them occasionally for fun with my girlfriend but there are only so many Mitch Miller and Der Bingle LPs a guy can use. I usually prefer to go one step further up the food chain, to a show or a used record store.

Something a lot of people don't get: this old shit we're talking about was often nowhere near best selling. A random LP from the 60s and 70s was more likely to be Burl Ives or some easy listening crapola, classical if you're lucky. Finding vintage Deep Purple or Genesis is hugely unlikely.

You can always find a Frampton Comes Alive though. Everyone has one of those at all times.

...a vinyl player. Unless you are Dutch, that's worse than SHMUP.

Anyone have any Beatles LP's?
I have a compilation box bought from the Reader's Digest. I'll take a pic when I get a chance.
