TTI Retail News Vol 1.
NOTES:
* Although officially launched on October 10, 1992...it wasn't until May 1993 that DUO was widely available (retail stores nationwide is what the flyer suggests?)
* The DUO itself was supposed to be advertised during major shows on major networks--I watched all of these shows live, back in the day, and I don't remember seeing a *single* DUO advertisement (I lived in NYC market):
FOX (Channel 5 NYC)
In Living Color
The Simpsons
COPS
Married with Children
Comic Strip Live
NBC (Channel 4 NYC)
The Tonight Show
Cheers
SNL
Late Night with David Letterman (he was still at NBC when this flyer was made)
MTV
ESPN
CNN
TNT
DISCOVERY
QUESTION: Was TTi simply trying to convince retailers that DUO was relevant? That DUO would be aggressively marketed? I honestly don't think TTi really had the money to pay for any expensive advertising, let alone an expensive marketing blitz of the most popular shows/most popular networks circa 1993....do any of you remember seeing any ads?
Print ads are easy to verify.
Broadcast/cable TV ads are harder to pin down.
However, even if the NYC market was far too expensive, perhaps FOX/NBC in Paris, Texas was within TTi's budget?
We do know that TTi was quick to announce many games (such as Robotech/Macross) in promotional material simply to generate interest in the DUO platform...so this would not have been the first time they intentionally manipulated retailers/customers...
