Have you ever sold or parted out any console, game etc that you totally regret now?


I'll start. Let's see who wins by doing the most regrettable?

When the PS1 came out, I TRADED a: Turbo Duo, 2x controllers, 10x+ games including Ys I/II, Monster's Lair, Devil's Crush etc for an almost new (modded) PS1 with 2 games...

Also, I got a Mac Color Classic II (very rare), with carrying case, for TEN DOLLARS back in 2003. I tore it apart and built a portable PS2 with it's case... That thing was cool, but didn't last long before it died...

Oh yes.. I traded away (made a typo at first saying "tarded away" which is also accurate) a bunch of my Hueys and a couple CD games to acquire an import Ranma 1/2 game which cost $150 or something like that.  Worse, I am pretty sure I can get that game for $10 now.  Worse, my expensive copy came with a wrinkled manual.  I loved the game but in retrospect I let my 13-14 year old weeabooness get the better of me.

If I recall.. Traded in for (partial) store credit:  Dungeon Explorer, Alien Crush, Vigilante, Ordyne, Space Harrier, It Came from the Desert, Dragon's Curse, Double Dungeons, Bonk's Adventure, Bonk's Revenge, R-Type, Cadash and god knows what else.  My reasoning being that I had beaten all those games so much so they were OK to let go.  Now of course I need to buy several of them back to fill the void left in my soul.

I also sold Cotton and Exile 2 for peanuts.  Had Vasteel stolen from me, which I've already bitched about many times here.

Edit:  Remember I also traded in Splatterhouse, New Adventure Island and Neutopia.  Feels so bad.  Luckily I had the good sense to keep Blazing Lazers and Parasol Stars, those are my original copies and I guess they were my favorite Hueys at the time (Still love them, of course.)

I traded in my beloved Gameboy and pile o' games to get a TurboDuo, and I missed the ol' b&w bastard for quite a while (and still do from time to time), but I can't say I really regret it.  Since then I've never sold anything that wasn't a dupe.

Oh snap, me too.  Well, I sold my original GB and regret it.  Had six games, TMNT, Tetris, Castlevania the Adventure, Alleyway, Dr. Mario and Motocross Maniacs.  Think I got $60.  I also let a GBC go for like $15 not too long ago.. I'm not too bent out of shape about it because the screen on those things is so hard to see.  But the Neo Geo Pocket Color has that problem and I would never let that go.  Still have it and all my games in boxes!  I do need to get a GBA SP 101 one day to play backlit original GB games though.

Edit:  Also had Super Mario Land, guess that was 7 games.

Sometimes life gets in the way, and there is no way to avoid it..

My dad died at a time when I was self employed... I had to shut down my business for over 2 weeks, travel to the other side of the country etc etc...

I ended up selling my Saturn stuff (about 80 games) and Jaguar stuff (about 45 games) to help make ends meet when I got back...  I really only regret selling the Saturn stuff, but I know that by now I would have only kept the high rotation stuff  since I have been paring down my stash to what I like to play...

I can't think of very many examples. When I let something go, I'm pretty sure it's not my kind of game, then I don't have to regret it. There is one example, a recent one, too, in which I let go SFII for the PCE (to a member here, no less), and I wish I hadn't.

Unless prices have gone up lately, those are all dirt common games and I got them all for around a dollar each not that long ago. So you really made out like a bandit.

Oh, I know, I just meant I regret it for sentimental reasons.  I could probably get all of those games again pretty easily, plus since then I've gotten a regular GBA SP and gotten a handful of games for that over the years.  Alleyway is not something I ever need to own again, hated it even when I got it.  The only priority would be Motocross Maniacs, that was easily my favorite game of what I owned.

Sold my PC Engine Shuttle for something like $30 after I got my briefcase Core Grafx set.  I love the unique design of the Shuttle.  I have been wanting to get another but I can't justify the price they go for now days. 

Non-Obey: I traded a Panasonic M2 FZDR21 development drive with controllers to a local game store.  I had no clue what it was at the time (maybe around '98) and basically gave it away.  It's so embarrassing too because I traded it straight up for one crappy game: Alone In the Dark for 3DO.

Since 1989 I've bought and sold so many games and consoles it's mind boggling, over this time I've owned and played practically all the games released for SFC/SNES, Neo Geo, PC Engine plus a shit ton more for all the other systems and after all that I don't really have seller's remorse on anything.

Only thing I can think of I regret is 2-3 years back due to space issues I sold most of my Super Famicom collection, at that time I had all teh rarez SFC titles. A year later I had regrets and thought actually I want my SFC games back. So went on eBay and checked auctions, also checked prices in Japan and all the games were selling for like 3-4 the amount. I really wanted them back but wasn't going to pay 3-4 times what I sold them for a year earlier. I thought I'm out for now, I'll pick them up if the price ever comes down again, which I know is unlikely.

...but I only regret getting rid of NES (because then my twins broke my NES), SuperGrafx (I haven't been able to find a decent price in last few years).

I traded in my SNES, including games like Megaman X2, Yoshi's Island, and Cybernator, at Funcoland so I could pre-pay for an N64...a system that never once got a game as good as any of those ones I just mentioned.

"Hey SNES fans, what was your favorite game from last year? Chrono Trigger? Super Street Fighter II? Scrambled Valkyrie? Ok, cool, here's 50 nigh on identical Crusin' clones and 100 shitty 3D platformers. Don't worry, we have LOTS of sports game still. Enjoy!"

The only saving grace was that Funco gave STUPID trade in back then, $45 for X2, which was a two year old game that only cost $60 new. So while I feel ripped off by Nintendo, I certainly don't feel bad about the deal I got from Funcoland.

Another nice thing was that when Goldeneye came out I was able to swap my small pile of N64 junk for a Saturn and I've loved that thing ever since. A "bad deal" by the standards of the day, but I actually had fighting games and real Bomberman so, IMO, I won this one outright.

Since then I've only ever sold stuff when I was dead broke (the 90s) or when it totally sucked, like when I wanted a blue PSP so I bought the Madden edition while trading in the pack-in to reduce the price.

EDIT: I also sold my US Duo to a forum member. At that point I had acquired a Duo R, which I like a lot more. While today a working US Duo is a $400 fetish object, to me it was just something I needed for playing PC Engine games. Now I also have an IFU setup in addition to the R. I'm still working with the same collection of Turbo crap that started when I got that Duo. My Turbo/PCE collection has never been 1000 games strong, but it's also ever been liquidated.

I avoid sellers remourse mostly by just not selling anything, and not buying stuff I don't want. I've never sold off a complete set of anything because I've never saw the appeal of wasting thousands of dollars on games I hate. With the exception of SNK systems, most game libraries are about %10 fun and %90 mediocre stuff or worse. By "completing" a game library all you are doing is spending a whole bunch more money to get a ton of crap. The dude with the same system and only the 12 best games has a much better collection, and that's the position I try to aim for.

Also, I was never dumb enough to buy a CDI or a Jag so I never had to go through the heartbreak of dumping it all.

I don't really sell games that aren't dupes so I can't really think of any times I sold something I wanted to keep.  There are times I wish I had sold stuff earlier though, like when I had some extra PS2 and gamestop was giving $25 per for them and I didn't trade in fast enough.

not really regret, but I sold off my copy of wind waker, which i'd like to play from time to time.  At the time I thought I'd get a remake, ect.  but yeah I can't be bothered with the new systems.   But since it's only one game, I am sure I'll get one again some day.  Other than that, I try very hard not to buy games I'm not going to play, and I'm okay selling off what I don't.

I kinda wish I hadn't sold that copy of Contra Force I found...no disrespect or anything, and I know it's a meh game & I needed the money more than I needed a conversation piece...but dammit!

From my introduction thread several years ago,

...I know that I had Order of the Griffen, Cadash, Galaga '90, Drop Off, Tricky Kick, Legendary Axe, Ghost Manor, Blazing Lasers, Victory Run, Sidearms, Double Dungeons, Final Lap Twin, Dungeon Explorer, Deep Blue, Neutopia, Neutopia II, and Keith Courage,...Not long after the Gameboy Advance came out, I became enamored with it, but I just didn't have the cash at the time, so I made a stupid trade around 2000.  I traded my entire TurboGrafx collection to someone for a new Game Boy Advance with a new copy of Advance Wars and one other game, the title escapes me right now.    Now, I'm mentally kicking myself over that trade.

Most of the games were complete in jewel case with no outer box.  After I got back into TurboGrafx-16 games a few years ago, I tried to track the guy down to see if he would be willing to trade them back to me, but I couldn't find him.
