Turbo game you refuse to play on other systems
« on: September 07, 2015, 02:13:23 AM »
What's one game on TG16, that just isn't as good on any other system. Only pick one, because I know there are many!

My #1 is Ys III. It just doesn't feel right on any other system. I actually remember going to my friend's house and he wanted to play it on SNES. I was laughing when I saw it!
Consoles: NES, SNES, N64, Wii, TG16, Master System, Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS3, PS4, PSP, Vita, 3DS
Cabinets: Neo Geo, Capcom 18-in-1, CPS-II Multi, Donkey Kong, DK Junior, Dig Dug, Centipede, Tron, Simpsons 4 player, Nintendo VS

Lords of Thunder.
My favourite game of all time, yet I've never played the Sega CD version.
I've seen screen shots and video footage and just doesn't look as good.

It's not that I would refuse to play the other versions, because I always like experiencing the different ports of a game I love, but it is hard to go to any other console for Fantasy Zone when the port on the TG-16 is so solid. No slowdown like in the SMS version and way better colors than the NES port. Add in the stock turbo buttons and it is a no brainier.
I'm a notorious strange man.

Gradius II, Lords of Thunder, all Ys (I-IV), Splatterhouse, Dracula X, Devil Crush (I think there was a Genesis game based on this)

Non Turbo game (but might as well be) Ninja Gaiden. It's just so much better than the snes and nes ports even with the crappy parallax.

Street fighter 2 surprises me. For me, that one just doesn't feel like the best port. But I'm actually used to playing it from an original pcb :-)

R type is another game I refuse on other systems. It's in my top 5 tg16 games!

I love playing different versions of games and appreciate even the bad ones for what they are and how they're unique.

With that said, the game that feel the strongest about not playing any other version of is Monster Lair. It's just not nearly as enjoyable without the Turbo/PCE soundtrack and always feels uncomfortable.

Hmmmmm...

I can only think of Non-Turbo games, at the moment.

That's funny. I was thinking of playing the other versions because I haven't experienced them in ages.

But then I have so many games on my backlog, I end up playing Ganbare Golf Boys instead.

I have to go with Bonk's Adventure. It seem ridiculous to me to be playing a inferior and the more expensive NES version.

What about the Game Boy games? Though they're not really the same game, so doubt that counts.

I'd still rather play R-Type, Ninja Spirit, Magical Chase Bonks, Bomberman, New Adventure Island, Zipang, Lode Runner, Rainbow Islands, Parasol Stars, Mine Sweeper, Faceball, Gradius/II, World Heroes 2, Fatal Fury Special, Chase HQ, Double Dragon II, Galaga 88, Lemmings, etc on Turbo/PCE.

Gradius & Gradius II, R-Type and Aero Blasters for me. Especially the Gradiuses (Or Gradii or whichever way you want to pluralise it).
