I loaned the show the games and system but didn't own Battle Ace at the time. Still don't. :)

I have a spare loose one.

Not sure if it's worth raffling or whether its reputation is so bad that I should just pay you to take it (if you'd even be interested)!

If you don't want it I'll give it a loving home. :)

OK, we have a winner of the great SuperGrafx Battle Ace "raffle" ... PM Sent!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!  :D

People seem to get hung up on the market failure of the SuperGrafx and not consider what it could have given us if NEC hadn't f**ked things up so badly.  #-o

That Battle Ace title tune just made me grin ear-to-ear.

If only we'd been able to see what the SuperGrafx hardware could do when matched-up with CD-ROM technology.

I had a feeling you'd like it. ;)

I wonder, though...are there really no CD games that even detect the Supergrafx? Though I fear that that is indeed the case, I also can't help but imagine that someone might have put some little easter egg somewhere.

Yeah, it's too bad they didn't start with the SuperGrafx design when they entered the market. If it's pretty much the same hardware as a PC Engine but with an extra sprite and background layer, I would've loved it if they began with that from the start. That would've kept the system more competitive between the 8 to 16-bit transitions from NES to SNES, Sega Genesis, etc.; just would've had a better overall run for a little more cost and we would've had much better eye candy in games.

Ok, so I just got myself a SuperGrafx.

I opened it up as I wanted to replace the controller port as it is severely worn out. I noticed a little switch over in the back corner next to the A/V output. What does this switch do?

Also, what is the port on the front of the machine next to the controller port for?

Are there any failing points on this system I should be aware of? Bad caps etc?

It looks very clean and simple compared to any of the Duo's...

I plan to RGB mod it and region mod it. Are there any issues on this console I should be aware of? I assume I do the RGB mod on the 6260A just as I would like on the 6260's on the Duo's?

I know it is a lot of questions but I have decided to store my US Duo and just get the most powerfull PC Engine setup I can, and that means a SuperGrafx with a Cd-Rom 2 add-on and Arcade card Duo. This will be my daily machine from now on.

TIA

That switch turns on the Turbo Processing™, making it push twice as many tile layers and sprites as a vanilla PC Engine.

Is the switch the one for PCE compatibility mode?

I assume the front connector is for the unreleased PowerConsole.

If you have Space Harrier, put it in and try the switch in the back.  You'll notice that SH (IIRC) is one of the games that will not work in normal SuperGrafx mode, only in PCE-compatible mode.

Thanks!  :D

I didn't know that there were actually any games that didn't work ... I thought that it was put in "just-in-case". I love learning new stuff!

Is there a list of troublesome games anywhere?

Well, the Ghouls and Ghosts seems like a worthy game for the SuperGrafx. It would most likely be my #1 if I had an opportunity to get one.

The thing with that though is the saturn has an arcade perfect port of the game.   I just want to try 1941, looks like one of the better 2 player games when looking at the whole pce library

The Saturn version is just another "good enough" port and is not perfect.
