Appreciation: Power Golf 2
« on: October 29, 2015, 06:15:34 AM »
This is possibly my second thread on this, but was unable to find the first...assuming it exists. I drink.  :?

I popped it in for a few holes just now. Every time I come back to it I am floored at what they pulled off. If you look at similar games on Genesis - the PGA tour games that attempted the pseudo-3D courses. They just don't hold up next to PG2. The only game I know of that refreshes faster is Waialae on SNES. But it's nowhere near as polished as PG2 in terms of design and interface.

Anyone else love this one? It's probably my favorite 8/16-bit era golf game.

Question: it appears you can save in between holes...I have yet to figure out how to "load" these saves. They show up in my file cabinet - but I cannot find any way to load them to save my life.

Yet another PCE game with fmv. Judging by a nico video on my phone, the fmv looks similar to John Madden, so I wonder if it's using HuVideo.

The in-game courses appear to use real scaling and rotation to render the ground.

Thanks.  Unfortunately it wants me to create an account and sign in, which I am not going to do.  Thanks for trying, though.

I recently bought this, haven't played it much yet but I picked it up because I loved the first Power Golf so much.  Seems pretty cool, haven't figured it all out yet.

It's definitely more "sim" than the first one. Honestly, they don't feel linked AT ALL. The tournament mode is awesome even with moon runes. You have to do jobs to earn money to pay for clubs and plane tickets to make it to tournaments. It's so good. It hurts my brain that it's not talked about more.

To anyone who has the complete PCE CD set torrent, it's under "Hu PGA Tour Power Golf 2 - Golfer".

The fmv is 16-colors and 128 x 128 pixels. It looks very smooth, but might only be 12fps.

The overall sound is great. The chip tunes use nice sounds for great compositions and "performances". The golfing segments have nice natural background/environment sounds with perfect sampled sound effects. It's cool how the chip tunes fade-in and play over the background sound after you make(?) a hole.

Another mouse controller game.

I order a NEW/Sealed/L@@K! copy, but only economy shipping was available.

Yeah I don't know what I paid for my copy, but it must have been hella cheap or I wouldn't have bought it.
