Duo vs Pro System Cards Q's
« on: November 01, 2015, 01:32:59 PM »
I have a PC Engine IFU with CD, i was wondering if i buy the cheaper DUO card will it work in my system.  I realize that the PRO is what is listed for it, but will the will the DUO just not boot up or ?? It's just crazy that the PRO card is $100+ while the DUO card is $40+

TIA

You need the pro card.  PCE Arcade games will not work on your system with a Duo card.  The Duo card is for Duo's or Super CDROM2 systems

Duo is an add on to the 3.0 that is built into the Duo units. I don't know what will boot, but if you're not using a Duo, you need the Pro card.

Just wish there was a cheaper option to play Fatal Fury on my PC Engine CD.  (sighs)  Looks like i'm going to have to dump it on ebay and pick up a DUO R/RX.

The PCE Duos and SuperCDROM2s can use either, but all the systems without a built-in BIOS need the Pro.

$100+ for an Arcade Card at any point past 1996 is insane, btw. That can't be the going rate.

Just get the SNK collection for PS2 or something.

That'd be great, but don't own a PS2 anymore.  I just built this system piece by piece for around $145.

Loose Arcade Card PROs are selling for $40 - $50 on eBay and there is one available now with a BIN of $69.99. Loose DUO cards sell on eBay for $14 - $20.

If game-related prices are a concern, you should learn how to eBay's search features properly. Otherwise you're only creating higher prices.

The Duo systems and SCD format were the most popular for PCE, so the Duo card is much more common.

Fatal Fury isn't the best excuse for an Arcade Card, btw, and playing the PCE version might be the most expensive path, now that I think about it.
