something I've recently noticed about Duo's
« on: November 09, 2015, 05:51:08 AM »
Speaking of the Duo, not the R/RX...the color of the tray release button and even the power button seem to vary wildly among these systems. I assumed it was just aging plastic...but some seem to be legitimately grey while others blue?

Were there variations of these or is this just plastic being dumb plastic?

Methinks they were all originally purple/teal, seeing as you never saw 'em grayed years ago, in any printed literature from back in the day, and the painted logo and controllers are always a matching purple.

That color of plastic is really prone to fading. I have a snes arcade stick that uses similar colors but is completely gray now.

I assumed as much, but in a recent, drunken YAJ binge I noticed them more dramatically.

Don't drink and YAJ kids.

The purple buttons on the Duo, as well as on the Hori 6-button fighting commander fade to a purplish shade of grey over time.
The teal buttons aren't affected as bad or not even faded at all.

Probably turning gray from people's grubby hands.  I got a used wireless controller that has buttons I/II turning gray as well, but not as bad.

It's not people's filth. Plastic yellows as it ages unless conditions were perfect at the time of manufacture. This is extremely common knowledge.

I am willing to bet you are mostly right, but imagine the grossness from some folk's grubby paws...

It would, sure, but it might just yellow again in a few years and REALLY piss you off.
