2016 Game of the Week submissions, please!
« on: December 03, 2015, 01:39:48 PM »
Hi everyone.

I'm pleased with how GOTW has been going this time around, and I'd like to continue it.

The rule has been that everyone gets to submit one game until we exhaust all submissions, and then there will be a "reset" and everyone can submit another.

Well, we're coming up on our last submission at the end of this month, and I think everyone who wanted to submit a game in the "first round" has done so. Not to mention, the start of a new year is the perfect occasion for a "reset". Therefore, I would like to open submissions now.

Anyone who wishes to submit a game may do so now. The only rule is that it can't be a game that we've done already in 2015. Check this list. I also suggest avoiding long RPGs.

When making your submission, please let me know in clear language. If you say something like "Maybe (x) would be a good game?" or something else that ends with a question mark, I'm  not going to be able to distinguish whether it's your submission or whether you're trying to discuss something with other members.

By the way, if you've ever submitted a game and I didn't add it, please do not take any offense. Sometimes I just miss things. When it looks like that's happened, just kindly let me know, and I'll fix it.

Thank you!

The new list:

1. Liquid Kids (lukester)
2. Buster Bros. (Punch)
3. Super Dimension Fortress Macross 2036 (Gentlegamer)
4. Fushigi no Yume no Alice (EmperorIng)
5. Valkyrie no Densetsu (Gredler)
6. Bikkuriman World (jtucci31)
7. Dragon's Curse (seieienbu)
8. Yo, Bro! (grolt)
9. Formation Armed F (nopepper)
10. Silent Debuggers (MNKyDeth)
11. Super Star Soldier (o.pwuaioc)

Fushigi Yume no Alice - now multiple people can enjoy constantly missing their high-jumps off of enemies.

I would like to nominate a game I have not played a lot of this next year, instead of a terrible sports game  .

If it's not taken I'd like to nominate Valkyrie No Densetsu to celebrate Cabbage and Shawnji's efforts, and to finally give me a reason to play that Hucard that's been sitting there shamefully underplayed.

Thanks again for doing this, I think tonight is the night I do the WCT weekly game :P

As Gredler beat me to the Valkyrie punch, I submit Dragon's Curse.
Current want list:  Bomberman 93

Count me in for the next round! As much as I want to force people to love Deep Blue along with me, perhaps it's best I get you all to appreciate another maligned game instead...my pick will be Yo, Bro!

Grolt, please, I'm sorry man, but can't you pick anything other than bad games?

GOTW is supposed to be fun, not painful.

I appreciate the sentiment and apologize for subjugating you to WORLD COURT TENNIS, but I still think that is a great game.  I've always been of the mind, like Pauline Kael when it comes to film criticism, that there's beauty to be found in the trash. Embracing the qualities of smaller, simpler, less canonically "great" games has always been a passion of mine, and I think that if you can learn to appreciate the cheaper, less collectible games it democratizes video gaming - it's not about "look what rare game I have" but more appreciating the grass in your own backyard.  No offense, but LIQUID KIDS is a $100+ dollar import game, it's a big ask to get people to obtain the game to try for a GOTW.  I can recant my Yo, Bro! nomination and pick something like Final Zone II or JJ & Jeff if there really is that much aversion to great Beach Boys chiptunes!
I'm a notorious strange man.

I never even said I owned Liquid Kids.

A lot of people on this forum have everdrives, so it's perfectly reasonable.

I'd like to nominate Formation Armed F, but I know most ppl think it's crap, so I'll let veterans pitch in instead. Still, it is a wonderful game, and you will be a better person if you give it a fair shot...

I wouldn't join a GOTW elsewhere because I do not own a everdrive for any platform except PCE/Turbo.

Knowing I can play 90%+ of the potential candidates makes me feel like I have at least a fighting chance of playing the GoTW.

Even if someone nominated a $20 game, if I didn't have an everdrive my chances of picking up the game in time to play a GoTW is way too low to even attempt to doing so.

I figured being cool with emulation to a certain degree would be a necessity to most players, as most people do not have extensive/expensive libraries :P

At the end of the day, "World Court Tennis" (NAMCO, 1989 - Turbografx-16) still sucks.
