I loved it. I only have a few minor nitpicks. #1 is the score. While Star Wars themes were in there it seemed like an overall lackluster effort by J Diddy Williams even compared to the prequels. It was also odd not hearing/seeing the 20th Century Fox fanfare before the "A Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far, Far Away..." that I've associated with Star Wars for over 60 years now. At least they didn't have the Disney castle logo animation. Nitpick #2 is the sloppy jump cut when princess Leia is talking in one certain scene. The camera is on her and then mid sentence it jumps forward to being closer to her at a slightly different angle. Now I understand that it probably took Carrie Fisher a great deal of effort to even deliver a single line and they had to cut and paste different takes to make a good one, but they should have cut away to someone else in the room listening for a second to disguise the sloppy-ass jump cut.

I noticed this as well and it totally bugged me for hours after seeing the movie. I mean it still bugs me that they couldn't have fixed it, but oh well, what can you do? Maybe a little snip-snip will happen before it hits teh Blu-ray.

30 years later, Stormtroopers still can't hit important targets. They never got Han or Chewie once.

I do need to give one warning, if you have little kids who gets nightmare easily skip this movie or make him/her wear diaper first.  Someone had something on the ship that could be described as bastard child of C'thun and Beholder (from AD&D). And not just one but THREE of them.  Here's the wookiepedia link: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Rathtar (click it if you have seen the film or want to be spoiled)

Chewie got hit didn't he? I mean, of course he got hit, but wasn't it by a storm trooper? I can't recall for certain.
IIRC he was hit still in their ship running from those guys demanding their money.

That jump cut totally bugged me too, but I think I brushed it off as my fault for blinking or something, lol. I hate jump cuts since it got so popular with terrible youtube videos. With that, I don't think Carrie Fisher looked that bad.

Only jumpcut that I noticed that bothered me was when she was when Rey was loading her junk onto her speeder.  Still, no complaints about the movie.  I agree with Prof, off to a great start!

Only thing that made me angry was the ending. I've really got to wait to see what happens next...

If you're in this thread I assume you've disregarded any spoiler warnings, so here goes:

That ending. I love seeing Luke and all. Can't wait for part 8. But she's holding the saber towards him like 'You want dis?" And he's like "I dunno I kinda need to stare at the horizon for a little longer. It's what I do. All these years I've been staring in the wrong direction because I totally missed the Millennium Falcom approaching. I didn't even hear it." and neither can make up their mind what to do. I think it should have ended with that and they should have left the helicopter shot off. It just makes it seem like they stand there motionless for minutes if not hours.

He's probably off in his own little world after what happened with Ben. Like super old crazy man status. That or... did you happen to notice the jo crystal he quickly slid into his pocket as he turned around? Totally happened, not making it up at all.

While we are at it... rey = luke's daughter... no?
I was thinking either that or she's maybe related to Kylo Ren? Brother and sister? There has to be some kind of connection with her and her dad leaving from Jakku. (Or was it the whole family?)

Well, her being Luke & Mara's daughter(if they decide to keep Mara Jade in Star Wars cannon), would still make her related to Ben Solo, as they would be cousins.  One friend of mine swore up & down that Luke & Mara had a daughter named Rey in the books(which 99% of them aren't cannon anymore), but I looked it up, & there was no Rey Skywalker, though, I think they did have at least one daughter, maybe Rey isn't her real name?  As it is, in the books there WAS a Ben Skywalker, son of Luke & Mara, so they kinda switched that around.

What I want to know is, how did Kylo keep that poof of hair from getting helmet hair?  Is that one of the tricks of the Force?!?

I'm surprised no one is asking about Supreme Commander Snoke.  I totally think he is Darth Plageius http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Darth_Plagueis/Legends

Most of the stories about him are no longer cannon, but, it totally looks like him!  He's briefly mentioned in Revenge of the Sith, & apparently his body is in some kind of giant urn in the movie.

#1 - WTF is a jo crystal? I'm sure he just put his phone in his pocket really quick since he was looking at porn or something.

#2 - A lot of people have been speculating that Ren and Rey are twins. Twins seem to happen a lot within the force (or so they say) but Han and Leia never spoke of having twins and that's something I think they'd know about. So I don't think they were twins. I personally feel as if she's Luke's daughter but if THAT were true then why did she have a flashback of being kidnapped by Ren when she was little?

Also, are Han and Leia divorced? Or did they just never marry? Also what does Han think about Bravoman?

Snoke is just Gollum nothing more. Even looks the same.

When Rey is having the flashback on Jakku the hand that is holding her back looks like the hand of the guy that distributed the portions played by actor Simon Pegg. Her waiting for her father could be her waiting for Luke, she may not have known his real name as a child.

Its unknown if what she witnesses when she touches the light saber is all a flashback or just parts.

I swore I heard Alec Guiness's voice during this time and it was confirmed that his voice, Yoda's, and Ewen Mcgreggor's voice are in Force Awakens.

*When Star Killer base takes out the Republic, I hope that was also JJ Abrams way of killing of Jar Jar

*If the resistance wants to end this war, take out the storm troopers and the first order, they should just call this guy and his friends"

They made a little nod to the now defunct Expanded Universe with the plot, but reversing it a little. Ben was the son of Luke and Mara Jade, but Kylo Ren seems more based on Jacen Solo, one of the twins Leia and Han had in the Thrawn trilogy. He falls to the dark side and ends up killing Mara, before being defeated and killed by his sister Jaina, which kind is like Rey - a great pilot, mechanic and force-sensitive/user. I don't think Ben and Rey are twins, though, he might be at his teens when he became Kylo and Rey was left at Jakku at a younger age. They could still be brothers, but probably they are cousins. Luke might have pulled an Obi-Wan here and left his daughter in a lonely planet to hide her from the enemies. If he brought her with him, they would be easier to be "sensed" and located. Let's see how they resolve that.

And I read somewhere that there's a nod to Jar Jar somewhere in the movie, like a bird eating a gungan skull or something. I do remember a bird in the desert, but couldn't see if it was him
