Great! Yeah, most of the remaining games are definitely the more difficult ones. I've been beating my head against the wall, trying to take R-Type down. I've made it up to level 6, but man, my shooter-fu is weak... I might be able to do Boxy Boy if Desh has given up and is willing to share his current level password. I know that there are a few other games that were being worked on; hopefully they'll be cleared before the end of 2016.
For 2017, I was thinking of just starting a new thread fresh and try again to beat 'em all, but maybe we need a point system where easier games get less points than the more difficult games. That would require figuring out difficulty tiers though... We might be able to do a prize of some sort, something more tangible than simple bragging rights. . What do y'all think, or does anyone else have any ideas?
GOAL: We must finish all the games, as soon as possible.
GOAL: We want everyone to participate and be proud they beat *multiple games*, even if they weren't the first to do so.
THEREFORE: The games that are "unbeaten" by the end of the year should automatically become the goal for the next mini-contest...but the mini-contest should not run a year...it should be shorter (a few months?) to encourage folks to play NOW.
Basically, I think this contest is fun because it can encourage folks to play (1) new games they don't know or (2) try to beat games they never have vanquished before.
SO, with that premise in mind (everyone should play, even games they don't know too well), "points" should be awarded for "all" completions...
(A) obviously, the first person to beat a game = maximum respect (Gold medal)
(B) however, folks who complete a game before mini-contest is over will still get some love! (2nd = silver, 3rd = Bronze, 4th = Blue ribbon, 5th and beyond = red ribbon)
The Olympics are fun, but we need another slot (or two) to encourage participation. RIBBONS!
QUALITATIVE, not quantitative: If a game requires an inordinate amount of skill/time to beat, we might consider a multiplier (ex. 3 gold coins for ______) — but, even if we don't do this, WE KNOW NOT ALL GAMES are equal.
So, respect is paid to folks based on the quality of their achievement to. Having several gold medals for beating shitty, easy sports games earns you the title QUEEN OF SHITTY SPORTS GAMES. This "honor" has much less weight than KING* OF ________ (R-Type).
I say: keep it easy and simple. Don't worry about determining the "point value" for games. We can worry about that later. Just make a disclaimer that this is not simply about tallying up points, but about rewarding dedication (time and skill)...
EVERYONE SHOULD PLAY.
Personally, I will be really proud of myself if I could earn a red ribbon for every game left. Truth.
*Note: KING OF CASINO is already reserved for _______.
