ISO: Genesis model 1 AC and model 2 AC/AV
« on: January 07, 2016, 08:06:58 AM »
If anyone has any spare Genesis model 1 ACs or model 2 cords that would be great. Desh was extremely nice in hooking me up with a model 2 Sega CD that I should be getting soon. I have both Genesiss's's's' but just need extra cables. 1st party cords are always preferred but if anyone can link to reliable 3rd party ones even, that would also be great.

Thanks!

I use one of the trio power supplies from retro game cave.  they are pretty nice.  I guess you could make one yourself too, but theirs are very well made.  looks like they are opening up orders tomorrow.  they only sell them about once a month or so.

What model Genesis do you have? By both it sounds like you have 1 and 2. If you have a model 1 and RCA cables for a duo, you may be fine sticking with the av cables you have. My model 1 Genesis uses the same AV cables as my Duo-R.

I recently got a cheap 32x and it looks like it only uses model 2 RCA cables, so I ordered these "http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/290964536358?ul_noapp=true&chn=ps&lpid=82".

To use my model 1 genesis I also need a "conversion cable" to hook the 32x up. I have a model 2 genesis so I might just use the model 2. Once I receive this cable I will do some comparisons between the models and cables I have, and see if it's worth more $ to stick with the model 1 by buying a conversion cable.

As for an AC adapter, Sega once seem to be getting more and more scarce, so hopefully someone can hook you up with one, my only spare is a bum that I am hoping I can somehow get fixed.

edit: looks like I'll also need a missing part "a spacer plate" to mount the 32x to the model 2 Genesis. How did this thing ever fail?

Yeah basically I hope to use my model 1 Genesis (the Hi-def one) with the model 2 SCD. I have a couple of model 2 Genesis but no AV/AC cables for either. Desh told me I pretty much just need a model 1 Genesis AC for the model 2 SCD (if that makes sense).

I take video from the Genesis right? Now the SCD? I'm obviously pretty new to SCD so my knowledge of PCE stuff only carries over so much.

I been wanting to get one of these for my model 1 genesis/sega cd but every time I look they are sold out.  It's annoying having those two huge plugs.

Off topic but I had a model 2 sega cd that I sold a while ago.  In the garage the other day I found the extension for the sega cd 2 to use with the model 1 genesis.  It's yours if you want it.

Oh and thank you for posting this link. I've seen this pop up many times and I always forget to save it for reference. Thanks for this!

The Genesis puts out the video for the Sega CD, but the Sega CD has separate audio ports.

My setup has been the same model 2Sega CD attached to a model 1 Genesis since back in the day, and never had problems with model 1 rca (what I now use on my duo-r) cables.

2x model 1 ac adapters, 1x model 1 rca cable, 1x stereo-mini plug from the front of the genesis, though I suppose I can use the rca in the back of the model 2 I never do because of my gaming setup is more convenient to use the headphone jack.

This 32x is discouraging, and I'm not sure it's worth the effort or stress, and might be getting rid of it

That is what I did with my 32x.  I just sold it since I didn't see the point as there was not much on there I cared to play.

If you are using a M1 Genny with a M2 CD, just make sure you use the patch (heaphone) cable to get stereo audio into your unit for mixing.

Yeah I always pull sound from the headphone jack. I like being able to control the volume right from the console :)

To update though, I found an older model 1 AC I had laying around that I thought was busted/not working. I bought it from a guy who told me such and it actually wound up working. The Genesis powered up just fine, now I have to troubleshoot the SCD. In any case, thanks for the help. I'll probably seek out that 2-in-1 custom made AC so I don't need a super long power strip.

I use the combo AC jacks from retrogamecave, they work great.
