White PC Engine not switching on

Dear all,

Need some advice if that's ok, I bought a PC engine some time ago and had it converted to run a scart lead, it seemed to work OK but all of a sudden it now doesn't work at all. I've taken apart the case and noticed that the fuse glass wasn't clear and looked like it had some staining inside, I'm presuming it's blown and needs replacing, as I'm from the UK does anyone recommend a fuse that I can use?

You are best to replace it with the same kind of fuse. It is a 1A glass fuse,  but you will need to solder it in place.

thanks for the response, so basically where the wires attach to the motherboard, that's where I wire the new fuse to? And it's just a normal 1A fuse with the wires attached to the ends?

Yes. Or you could just clip out the old fuse and leave the wires in, and solder in new fuse right on old wire.

I've used a pico fuse before. As long as it's got the same specs (1A, 125v, fast blow) it will be fine. The pico fuse is a lot easier to solder in place than trying to solder one on without leads.

Its ok to replace it with one rated at 250v

Brilliant, thanks all for the advice, I've ordered one of the glass ones so will replace it when it arrives, miss playing the PC Engine! I only have Chan and Chan, Jackie Chan and Tatsujin but those were the games I loved playing when I was younger round a friends house. I think the fuse may of blown due to the plug that I used, it was a multi adapter/wattage one, think the settings was wrong. I realise that a MK1 Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) one will work on it, but please advise me if I'm wrong?

You need to watch the polarity. Make sure they are the same.

Not sure if you had to many volts set or something but I would pay special attention to how the ends are polarized on the plugs.

I have a feeling I messed around with the voltage on the plug after getting it back after the scart mod, so it looks like it was my fault. I've got a genesis power supply so will try that after I've replaced the fuse, the rest of the motherboard looked in good condition, just a little dusty of which I will clean when I do the repair.
