I originally got a pc engine duo last year but I wanted this setup since this is the one I had growing up.

I slowly pieced it together and it really is not the cheap route to go.  With that being said some tips to save cash is to buy one piece at a time.  You can find the dock on ebay at reasonable prices.  If you don't care for looks the pc engine cd drive also works in this setup.  Be mindful the cd drive will most likely need maintenance if it has not already been refurbished.

The elephant in the room of course is the super system card.  The us card is rare and very expensive.  You have more options there now than ever before.  You can region mod the TG16 which is what I did.  This lets me use the arcade card, super system card, and the tennokoe bank in this setup.  Another recent possible option is using the everdrive v2 with the system card 3.0 image that one of our members has patched to work on it.

With all that being said after all that work I am enjoying my tg16 cd setup.  It's just not the best initial route to go.

^^ CD ROM system ,especially USA version, can cost quite a lot.  Unless you want this model specifically, it is usually better to get a Duo instead, they costs less, takes up less space, and has System 3.0 built in.
